Question 1 central library for a few clients

Hi!

I'm not sure if it's possible but I try to describe my dilemma.

We have of course not only one computer in our household. Is it possible to use the same library on more than one computer?

My consideration is that we save the whole libary on the NAS and both computers has a kind of connection to the same (how should I call it?) metadata(?) file. So that when 1 add a new book to the library the second computer gets the changes and is always up to date.

Was that clear enough?

I thought this would be easy but I haven't found any information regarding this feature. I've tried to create a new library but I can only create a new one in an empty folder or copy my existing one to a new location. :/

Cheers

Calibre is single user system, so only one copy of Calibre can access the database at the same time (unless you want to corrupt the database).

There are basically two ways of sharing library:
  • Use the Calibre Server option to access the library. This method allows multiple users to get at the books. In this solution a particular machine is running the Calibre server software
  • use file sync software to copy calibre library files from the 'master' copy where books are updated to copies on other machines.

The server is already installed. It just needs to be configured and activated.

Connect/share Icon is where that is done.

The Host system is where things get managed, all other users simply use a standard Browser to locate and retrieve books and use any compatible viewer (including the one that comes with Calibre) to read.
Just don't attach remote Calibre (the GUI part) systems to the SAME library
