Aura HD Ext SD card

Is there a proper or improper way to remove an SD card from an Aura HD? I had one in mine for the first time, loaded a bunch of books on it. Then I needed the card so I took it out. I didn't do anything special. Just removed it.

Today I got 2 new cards and they are causing my device to freeze and not respond. Both the cards look fine on my PC and I formatted them. But put them in the Aura HD, and I have problems. These are SanDisk class 4 cards. I've restarted the device. With a card in, it stalls during the restart. Take the card out and it works fine. With the card in, the computer is not even seeing it.

Could this be due to my removing the other card, or could the card slot be damaged? I find it hard to believe that both of these new cards could be causing problems.

Trying another hard reset with a card in now.....and it's frozen again on the dots screen.

Tried a 3rd card I had on hand. Same results. So I guess my card slot is the problem. Oh well.

There are some potential issues with the external uSD and the way it has to line up with the hole in the case. When I first got mine I had problems getting the uSD card to be properly locked into place. Perhaps something got moved enough to prevent the cards from seating properly. A long shot, but might fit your description of the problem.

Maybe. The new card wouldn't go in at first, although I definitely had in in the right way. So maybe I jammed something up.

Once it is messed up, there is no fixing it from the outside of the device, correct?

The Kobo is seeing the device, as it wrote "Kobo Ext Storage" to each of the cards. But, as it was frozen, that did me no good!

I take it your original uSD card now causes the freezing as well?

If not you could try cloning the disk over the new one.

The problem is not likely a physical/mechanical one with the cards being written to by Kobo.

I can't try the first card, which worked fine, as it is now inside a Glo. (As in, running the internal image).

So maybe I need to just give time to relax, and try again. I don't want to take this one apart, I don't want to mess it up. I took both my Glo's apart but they were much cheaper. (And now the power sliders don't work). I can live without the ext card. Just thought it would be nice, since it's flush (unlike the Aura and Glo, the cards stick out of those).

Jeez, the same thing is happening with my Aura, now. Put the card in, and the device is unresponsive. Why am I messing with perfection, anyway! I'll go through the whole routine and see if I can get any card to work on it, then I'll give up.

Ok this time it wasn't so bad. It didn't like any of the SanDisk cards, but it's reading the Sony card. (The Aura HD didn't like that one, either).

FYI - I got both of these as used devices, so I have no idea if the previous owners could have done something to their SD card slots.

Found a brand new SanDisk 8gb class 4 card at a yard sale. This one is in my Aura HD and no freezing! The only thing I did differently was insert it while in sleep mode. No problems loading books via Cailbre to the card.

Maybe I should go see if they still have the other card at the sale LOL
