Free book from NASA
Archaeology, Anthropology and Interstellar Communications by Douglas A. Vakoch. Mobi, epub of PDF download.
http://www.nasa.gov/connect/ebooks/a...l#.U75-aEqmXJg Addressing a field that has been dominated by astronomers, physicists, engineers, and computer scientists, the contributors to this collection raise questions that may have been overlooked by physical scientists about the ease of establishing meaningful communication with an extraterrestrial intelligence. These scholars are grappling with some of the enormous challenges that will face humanity if an information-rich signal emanating from another world is detected. By drawing on issues at the core of contemporary archaeology and anthropology, we can be much better prepared for contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, should that day ever come. |

Stanislaw Lem wrote that book a long time ago.

First contact should go along these lines:
"How! me greet you in peace. If you give 'em me black liquid and shiny gold rocks, me not kill you." ![]() |

That may not be "news," but NASA offers a lot of other free ebooks. See some, if not all, of them at http://www.nasa.gov/connect/ebooks/index.html.
That link was posted before, on MR, on 10/19/12, at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...highlight=nasa, but the "news" is that there have been at least 5 books posted at their site since. You might have to have an advanced degree in rocket science to understand some of them. Unfortunately for me, I'm a brain surgeon, not a rocket scientist. ![]() Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 07-11-2014 at 11:30 PM. |
