Kindle PaperWhite 2 from japan - guarantee ?

Hello - I have bought new kindlepaperwhite 2 from local reseller in Europe, Kindle is still in box (unboxed), because it will be gift for my brother.
One hour ago I have realised that kindle has japanies letters on the box. I contacted seller and he confirmed that devices were bought in japanies shop.
Could you tell me if there will be no problem in future guarantee for this device (I will register it on amazon.com)?

I have read at some forum that if the device was bought in japan (in some shop, not from amazon.co.jp) there is no guarantee from amazon.com or amazon.co.jp and I have to send it to a shop - is it truth ?

I have contacted amazon.com too, but they said only to not worry and first register the device on amazon.com

I'm guessing you're probably ok. I'm just basing that off of, well, Amazon!
How much did you pay for it? They only cost about $90 US over here which is why they're probably being resold in Europe.

I have paid about 530 zlotys (Polish currency) with some chip plastick kindle etui, which is about 170$.
If I would buy kindle from amazon.co.jp I had to pay 23% Vat Tax + 3% customs duty (form kindle + delivery), I dont know how much is delivery to Europe from Japan. (oh I dont know even if it is possible - do they ship to Europe ?)

I have tried it before. Amazon US keeps a registry of serial numbers so they know where the set originates from. They will not honor service claims. You need to be able to speak Japanese and contact Amazon Japan for service.

That said, the lower price may be worth the risk. I didn't mind the risk myself when I had a Japanese set.

I bought it in local auction service like ebay, which is allegro.pl - I did not know that this kindle is from japan. I don't know what to do now - I can still send it back, because I have not even unboxed it yet!

I really wouldn't worry about it. Kindles are very reliable.

I agree with Harry--don't worry about it--and if it is a Japanese KPW2, that means it will have 4GB memory rather than the 2GB that non-Japanese units have, so your brother will have more storage space for books if he wants it.

Check this page for the serial number. Maybe it's not actually a Japanese set. Even if it is, I feel you should keep it as the probability of needing support is low.

It is definitely from japan - 905A - Kindle PaperWhite 2 (2013) WiFi (Japan) - company from whom I have bought kindle also confirmed that - they have bought them in some japanese shop. (I feel like a fool now, knowing that they paid 90$ and sold me for about ~160$ - they have probably found the way to not pay import taxes so they have earned ~70$)
Anyway tkanks for help - I think I will keep that japanese bad boy and I hope I will not need amazon support :-)

By the way I know a little bit japanese (I've learned 1 year with native speaker) so I can even try to talk in japanese with amazon.co.jp if will be forced too :-)

But the real problem is that they will ship the replacement to a Japanese address.
