Calibre to Kindle not working

Hi, I am having a problem with moving converted books from Calibre to my Kindle. I have been using Calibre for over a year now but this problem cropped up a few months ago. I find a book I want and drag it into Calibre no problem. The book is in the Epub format. I click the 'convert book' option and convert it into Mobi no problem. The book then shows in Calibre as now being in both formats. In the left side column I click on the formats and select the mobi file which in turn now shows me the book in Mobi format. I then drag the converted book into my Kindle and it always shows as an Epub file???
I know I have performed this task numerous times successfully in the past but in the last few months something has changed and I don't know what.
( Calibre is fully up to date)

Go to plug-ins, device plug-ins, and edit the configuration of the Kindle driver. Sounds as if you've told it to preferentially send ePub format to the Kindle. I'd suggest setting it to send AZW3 as the first choice, and Mobi second. You really ought to be converting to AZW3 for the Kindle, not Mobi.

I would suggest using the "Send to Device" button in calibre rather than dragging and dropping. Calibre will do the conversion at that time, you don't need to do it prior to that.

If I am reading this right you are saying that if I get an epub file in calibre and just use the 'send to device' option the program will automatically convert the file enroute to the Kindle?

If you're using the iOS Kindle App you need to use the "iOS Reader Applications" plug-in and configure it to use the Kindle App. Once you've done that, yes, Calibre will automatically convert other formats to Mobi when you do a "Send to Device".

[QUOTE=shamrock249;2761960]I had the basic Kindle and Calibre worked fine. I now have a Kindle Fire. The icon to send a book to the Kindle no longer appears.
