Do you have an issue with the 'lag' between page turning?

Hi,

I am thinking about buying an ebook reader to primarily read textbooks. I read some reviews on the device and watched some videos how the device performs on YouTube. What I noticed was the little 'lag' (maybe less then a second but still noticable) when page turning. I guess that's a characteristic with eInk and you would have to live with that. Maybe it's just me being pedantic, but I have an issue with that and like the device flip pages instantly.
My question is: Do you personally have an issue with that or don't you mind that moment between turning pages.

I am looking forward to your experiences.

I never really worried about an instantaneous page change. As long as it's faster than I could flip a page in a physical book, I'm happy.

I never even notice it. It's definitely shorter than the time to turn a physical page anyway. Best way to find out if it would really bother you is to buy a kindle and try reading a book or two on it for a couple weeks. If you don't like it Amazon will let you return it. You can't really tell what an ereader is like from ads or even looking at it in a store.

What I would be worried about more is reading text books on a 6" display.

That wouldn't be a problem if I would use some of the 9.7" devices available on the market.

It's a lot less than a second, partly because you get used to how long it takes so you turn slightly before you finish reading so it's only the redraw time that matters not the whole time between press and new page.

There's always going to be disruption, even if it's only having to move your eyes from the bottom to the top of the screen so it's a case of what is tolerable rather than disruption or no disruption.

I have no problem with eInk refresh times on my Aura HD.

Yes, I do have an issue. Every time I switch between devices (happened 5 times in the last 8 years).

Then, after some 20 pages I get used to different device and start pressing pageturn when I am in the middle of the last line or at some other place specific to the device ;-)

Long before I am in the middle of the first book the timing issue disappears completely. I have switched my reader to invert page after each page turn, but I do not see the inversion. My brain just filters that out.

I could never flip pages on my dead tree books faster than on a well formatted EPUB viewed on my PEz

My K4 beats the PEz for flip (and open) by a long shot. IMHO Both are livable.

If you're using a tablet, it takes about the same time to turn the page ... it's just that you're moving your hand/finger while it takes place and the page turn is animated, sliding into place.

I've been using my Kindle for so long that I actually press the page turn button just before I've read the last words on the page and by the time I read those words, the next page is showing up. I don't think about it, I just do it.

I've never noticed any problem with the speed of page change.

Nonissue unless you are getting significant lag. That means that either you are close to running out of memory or you need to reset to factory settings and put your stuff back on. Kindof like my netbook or desktop computer when I have perhaps 500 megs left on a 100 gig hard drive.

Textbooks often have illustrations and that can add a lag time.

You will get used to it. It is not a big issue for me. In fact I like it, it gives me some breathing time between pages

To be honest, I'd go for a tablet for textbooks instead of an eInk device even one at 9.7".

The page turn speed is nowhere near a second on a modern 6" eInk device; it's a small fraction of a second. It's obviously a little slower on a 9.7" screen because there's a lot more to be refreshed.

But I agree with Jon that a tablet is much more suited for reading textbooks on than an eInk device.
