Kindle Fire HD?
Yesterday I found myself browsing and looking at the Kindle Fire HD as a possible purchase for my mother. At $119 on sale it was definitely a good deal for a basic "tablet". She is far from a power-user, but also does not use the Amazon environment. Would this be a completely ill-advised purchase for her? Is it useful at all to someone who might just want a tablet to do basic web surfing/email and maybe read the occasional free Kindle book? I read something about it being ad-intensive as well... is this the case?
I know absolutely nothing about Kindle and did have a quick search on here but a bit overwhelmed by all of the threads/information...so I thought I'd just ask for people's general thoughts. |

For basic web/email and Kindle freebies it'd be fine, but then so would pretty much any decent tablet. As for ads, they take the place of the lock screen image, nothing I'd call intensive. Of course they can be disabled for around $20 if they really bug someone. I believe Staples in Canada carries them in store so you could always drop in and check one out (if you have one near by).

Yes, it was actually Staples that had the $120 deal on but that ended yesterday and I wasn't able to get there to check them out. ![]() |
