Error Message for Google Drive Library

Hi! I set up my library to work with my Google Drive. It was working yesterday, but suddenly today, I get this error message that the library is damaged.

I'm running Calibre 1.9 for 64 bit on a Windows 8 computer. Using the Google Drive was allowing me to share my library across my computers and tablets. I will try to see if I can add it as a new library in case there is just an error caused by syncing it to my other computer - a Windows 7 computer.
Thanks

Google Drive is incompatible with Calibre as it silently renames files/folders within the Calibre file store. See this thread for more details.

Well, shoot! LOL! Good thing I decided to be careful and didn't actually put the original library there. But why is my original one messed up now. *tries to remember if I copied from the google drive to the real library...*

Thanks for the info. I will just copy it there as a back up but not as a library.

I will check out the fix thing.

You can use Dropbox to let your library live in the cloud storage, which will allow it to remain always up-to-date, or really any other cloud storage, Google Drive is the only one with the problem.

It also has a very nice feature to view the documents in your Dropbox with folder hierarchy and this allows you to publish you calibre catalog using calibre2opds.

I would love to use dropbox, but I have a fanfiction library that is just too big for the size they provide for free. And really, I originally did it so my friend could find stuff to read as she only has an iPad and fanfiction.net is blocking most of the downloaders.

I was looking at Copy as it has enough maybe - it shows I get 15 gbs - more than enough, but I'm not sure how long it lasts before it reverts to a smaller amount.

Now I do have a question. Since I have the Google Drive as the current library, Calibre keeps crashing and won't let me change. Is the only way to fix it to uninstall the whole thing and start over? It's not letting me switch.

Thanks.

Never mind. I deleted the google library from the Calibre 32bit version and it fixed the problem for the 64 bit version.

Now to see if I can fix the regular library, or I will have to move some files....

Calibre 32 or 64 uses the same settings, therefore the same default (last viewed) Library will try to open

Copy will not revert to a smaller size.

As far as moving the library, while calibre is closed take the My Documents\Calibre Library folder (or whatever the library is named) and move the WHOLE LIBRARY to some other location using the file manager.

Then open calibre and it will say help I can't find ur library anymore, point to the new location or delete the library from the calibre library list.

Your problem is I am assuming that calibre and Google Drive are trying to access the folder together, and calibre can't keep the database together long enough to move the library, so instead you will move the library manually.

The settings, including the library lists, will remain the same no matter whether you use 32- or 64-bit, and no matter how many times you reinstall. They shouldn't be messed up from Google Drive anyway, just the actual library folder. However, if the library folder doesn't work, then calibre will not know what to do with itself, and send you errors to that effect.

I had tried that yesterday after it first crashed, but it didn't work until this morning when I thought to disconnect the Google drive first. As I said

Moving the library out of Google isn't an issue. I wasn't actually using the Google version as I have fears that Google will "accidentally" delete it and it will be gone. I am a little paranoid I realize.

I have the real library in my documents and a backup on my second hard drive. I was just copying updates between the libraries when everything crashed. So I opened the Google drive library to see what was happening and got stuck with multiple error messages that wouldn't let me get out of it.

If I do use Copy, I will probably still have a backup in my documents. Thank goodness for large hard drives..... Thanks for the info. Makes me a little happier to use it.

It's not paranoia. Google Drive WILL destroy calibre's ability to use it.

Through referrels and the 3 gigs you can get by storing photos then removing them the amount available to Dropbox uses for free is around 22 gig. I think I am maxed out at 21.75 gigs.

It doesn't revert back and will expand by 5gigs for each person which you refer that signs up and installs the app or PC software. If you sign up with the link in my signature you start off with 20Gigs of space.

As you already have found out in post 2 you can not run a calibre library in Google drive without having your library destroyed.

You can still do that???

EDIT: I mean, do the picture thing. I know about referrals, OBVIOUSLY.
