My iPad mini has basically replaced my PW2

I couldn't believe it, but I see myself more and more using my retina Mini more than my PW2. Initially, I was doing it for the PDFs only, but I find myself using it more and more. My wife just noticed it and made the comment to me.

I've not taken beach vacations in a while :-) and my longest trip is when I visited my mom in Colombia, so the PW is getting some dust.

I think that the main reason is the outstanding contrast on the retina Mini and the less than stellar resolution on the new PW.

Is this happening to someone else that bought the retina Mini and own a eink device?

Not a retina mini (although I wouldn't mind owning one ), but I have found that I use my Fire HDX 8.9 for pretty much all of my reading now (with the brightness properly set). I did bring an eInk reader with me on vacation (as well as the HDX) just in case I'd be reading somewhere out in the sun, but never ended up needing it.

I've just received an IPad air as a pressie and i find myself reading on that just so i can start reading in bed again, if I had a PW2 I think would have stuck with that.

BTW don't you just hate apples attitude to what you do with you own files on the device. I keep expecting to hear a voice say "what do you mean you want to move a file!"

I have a Nexus 7 with a fabulous screen, but I still prefer reading on my Kindle. I like the smaller form factor, and it's not as heavy.

I have both an iPad Retina Mini and a PW2, and use both daily. Both are excellent devices.

Hmm... so maybe it's just me.

Yes, I love PW2 smaller form factor but the retina Mini is very close to that. It does not shine on battery though, as the PW2, and that's why I bring mine with me one on my long international trips.

This probably happens a lot. Since more and more people prefer to bring one device not too.I guess people rather take IPad mini. At least you can watch youtube during break

Sold my PW2 last fall after getting my iPad mini Retina. The iPad mini Retina makes the PW2 look like a POS2, if you get my drift. Actually it makes all eInk readers look like a POS. No comparison in screen quality or quality of the reading experience. It is time for eInk to fade into the sunset.

Yep, I would go further. My iPad Retina mini is the best computer, not pad or tablet of laptop or desktop, that I have ever owned.

The PW2 is good but looking at the iPad Retina mini is just so much easier on my eyes.

Probably the only thing, other than the price, is the screen in bright sunlight.

I returned both a Fire HD and a Fire HDX after they lost all of their charge on the bedpost overnight.

I totally disagree! While I do like reading on my Nexus 7 (no ipad mini), I find tablet screens so shiny. I've tried anti-glare screen protectors, and they do reduce the glare, but also the clarity. I much prefer reading on any of my Kobos, and even my PW1, to reading on a tablet. For awhile I thought tablets like the Nexus 7.2 were great for reading on. But the shine! I even put a matte black skin around the bezel of my Nexus. That did help, but the screen itself is still shiny. I have tried the brightness as low as I can stand it. Still shiny. So I am back to eink.

I read my eBooks on: Samsung Galaxy s5 2014 (can fit in my pocket with a 5" screen), Paperwhite 2013 (completely legible in bright sun - 6" screen) and Kindle Fire HDX 2013 (apps galore and good for cloudy skies - 7" screen).

I believe the Galaxy s5 is the LARGEST screen available now which can fit in a shirt pocket, run most apps for the Kindle Fire HDX and make and receive phone calls and text messages.

I am curious, can an iPad Mini fit in a shirt pocket and what is its size? Can it make and receive phone calls and text messages?

Do you own a retina Mini? I can tell you that the PW2 glows way more at bed than the Mini.

I've always enjoyed the Mini but I started to realize that my PW2 and the retina Mini maybe can't coexist, at least at home.

The only reason I've not sold my PW2 is due those vacation times at the beach of outside of USA. Plus the PW catches less attention aka robbers than the iPad when I'm not in USA,

Same here. I kept my Paperwhite 2 as I read outside a lot in the spring and summer, but at all other times I use my Nexus 7 or iPad to read on. They are just far superior to read on, imo. Nice dark text and contrast. Like Jack said, they make my PW2 looks like the POS2. hee hee. Had to requote it as it made me laugh!

No, but I saw one and love the size. Does it not have a shiny screen? All my tablets do.
