Android Tablet
Not necessarily to be used for reading but I'm trying to decide between a mid(?) range tablet, it's down to two most likely: a Nexus 7 (16 GB no microsd slot) or a Samsung Galaxy 4 7" 8 GB tablet (micro sd slot). Both price ~$199. On the Galaxy's side is the fact I have a Galaxy phone (not that there's really much of an Android learning curve).
Then there's the do I buy from Best Buy and get reward points or Amazon with the Amazon CC. Ah decisions decisions... Which would you buy (or own) and why? ![]() |

I personally would go with the N7, the reasons being that I do not like the Samsung skin and the N7 will get faster updates. The N7 is also probably faster given that the Touchwiz overlay is quite heavy, there was a video I saw recently comparing the Samsung S5 against the Nexus 5 and the N5 smoked the S5 in every day usage (like launching apps), despite having a slightly slower CPU.

Get the N7. It will get faster updates and it has a higher screen resolution (which makes a huge difference when reading). I use Galaxy phones and had no problems using the Nexus 7. The one minus for the Nexus is lack of micros slot but I didn't find it to be an issue on my 32 GB Nexus 7.

If I go with the Nexus I'm going with a minimum of 16 GB. I am leaning that way at the moment.

The N7 offers the option to mount a USB drive using an USB OTG cable (the Samsung does as well). Not as convenient as a SD card slot, but for the odd occasion, like a long flight, might be an option.

There are even flash drives with a connector built in so you don't need to carry an OTG cable now. Never used one myself.

If you are going to use a tablet for storing purposes then go for a Samsung as it contains more storage space otherwise Nexus would be much better as it 1280 x 800 pixels resolution which is much more than that of Samsung's resolution .Get android apps here .

Or you can also look at a Galaxy Tab 3 or 4, 8" for $239 or $249, both have 1280x800 pixels. I don't know the difference between the Galaxy Tab 7 Lite and non-lite, but they sell new for $149 at Amazon. (These can also be bought factory refurbished for $109.) I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't limit myself to just the two choices. (I should add, my nephew (who was traditionally an iPad user) decided on a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 for his latest purchase -- and he (and his wife) love it.) EDIT: I thought the new Nexus 7 had a 1280x800 pixels. A quick check shows 1920x1200 -- a huge difference. So that pretty much negates most of what I wrote above. Yeah the PPI swayed my opinion. I ended up ordering the 16 GB version Sunday not long after I replied in here... it's arrived. I'm drooling!
