Avoiding "News" folder

I'm disappointed in Calibre Companion initially... it's putting downloaded recipe files in a "News" subdirectory, and this doesn't seem overridable. So the Kindle app and FB Reader cannot see those files, because they're in the wrong place.

What's the fix? Thanks.

You should be disappointed with Calibre since that is what is creating the News folder.

I may be wrong and I'm not at my computer right now, but if you can't use sub-directories then I believe you can right-click on the device icon (in calibre) when CC is connected and select configure the device. Now uncheck the Use sub-directories box. This should stop calibre from creating the News sub-directory.

Thanks. I'll try that. But I didn't have this problem with Calibre on other devices. Devices that could connect via USB Mass Storage, rather than devices stuck behind KitKat's lack of Mass Storage mode plus the Mac's lack of MTP. So my only experience with this problem has been CC.

DoctorOhh has it right. If you turn off using subdirs then news will not be put in a folder. Of course, neither will any other book, should you be using subfolders for standard format files.

Looking at calibre's code, of the USB storage-option devices only the Nook devices do not put news in a sub-folder by default. Of course, if the device does not permit subfolders then that overrides the news settings.
