Author information

Is anybody storing author information anywhere in the calibre structure? I've searched and can't find an official solution. If there isn't one, since I've already created a parallel structure for additional information, the obvious first idea is to put author information in the Info tree at the author level. Put where to put a link that there is such info? I put a link in the metadata of the book if I have additional information in the Info tree for that book.

I won't want it for all authors, just some of my favorites.

Surely I'm not the only one...

Thanks!
Judy

@judyni

Right click author name in book details, select Manage Authors. Put a link to your parallel author folder in Manage Authors->Author Link. Then when you click on the Author name in Book Details that folder will open rather than wikipedia or whatever you have in L&F->Book Details->default author link...

To get the folder link I use FileMenuTools->Copy Name->Copy Internet Path (it's a free windows shell extension)

Oh, of course! I was thinking the "manage" entries are just to manage the names, but this one is more. Sorry!

[I don't use Windows File Explorer -- my much better file explorers have an option to copy the path. I use FreeCommander and an old old pre-VCOM PowerDesk (I got grouchy when the PowerDesk people wanted me to pay for every system I use...)]

I use windows explorer on XP and you can copy the path from the Address bar (same on w9x).

on W7 right click on the address: copy as text

Not sure if Free Commander and or Powerdesk will give you the URI link to the folder, FileMenuTools is a regular shell extension, but a vague memory says FC has its own context menu's - you can probably write script to do it - heck there's bound to be one out there somewhere.

I suspect the code was written anticipating folks would put a web url there like an authors facebook page, but it works with any well formed URI. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_URI_scheme and the cited IEEE RFC's for details on local file system URIs.

In my actual usage I have found that you need an internet format URI, a string with 'file:///' in front of it and spaces replace by '%20' etc - eg this wont work

E:\Calibre Libraries\TestInfo\AuthorInfo\Arnold Palmer

But this will work

file:///E:/Calibre%20Libraries/TestInfo/AuthorInfo/Arnold%20Palmer/
