Removing Special Offers ?

My PPW came yesterday and I'm loving it. However, I find the ads take up a lot of room when I'm trying to look through the pages of books on my device. I don't mind them on the lock screen, I am used to that from my Kindle Fire. So, I'm thinking of paying to remove them.

If I do so, will it remove both the banner on the main screen as well as the suggested book purchases just above it? I'd still like to be able to access the list of special offers from the menu... is that even possible? I sometimes like to take advantage of the offers and would hate to lose that option.

Thanks for your help.

@HeatherA-
If you are referring to the banner of 'suggestions' at the bottom of the home page, that can be turned off inside of menu>settings>(device options?)...I can't tell you the exact spot at the moment in the menu but just look and you will find a toggle. All PW's have this, not just SO's and I believe it can be turned off in SO PW's.

You can turn off display of suggested book in Settings. Like this: Menu>Settings> Device Options>Personalise Your Kindle >Recommended Content

Oh thanks! I'll look for that toggle.

I looked for something like that yesterday, but never saw it. Today I just updated to 5.4.3 and there it was! Much better and I can save $20 and keep the ads

I have a smart cover for my PW that turns the Kindle on and off when I open the cover. I paid to have the ads removed, and now when I open up the cover it opens up to the last page I was reading--not having the added step of swiping the screen each time I want to start reading is great. I know it really doesn't seem like that big of a deal to have to swipe the screen, but for me not having to do that and not having to see ads on my home screen was definitely worth $20.

I did the same thing. In a way it seemed like a waste of $20, but I love it! I open my PW several times a day. It's just lovely to not have to swipe the ad page each time.

I had my K3 so that it showed the book cover of my current book. If I paid the $20 to remove ads and then jailbroke and installed the screensaver hack can I still require the swipe so I can see the book cover?

I typically recommend that paper white owners not bother with the special offers. They don't bother me in the least.

You're contradicting yourself. If they "don't bother you" (ie you don't mind them), why do you recommend that people "don't bother with them" (ie don't have them)?

Personally I don't mind the ads BUT there hasn't been anything good in ages.

I do however miss opening up my K3 to the book cover.

I understood that to mean "don't bother yourself regarding them", that is, don't bother to care about them.

Perhaps I have low sales resistance but I've probably saved far more than $20 in unmade purchases since I paid to get rid of the special offers. Even though I had a backlog of (many) hundreds of ebooks to read, I still couldn't resist the Kindle ads.

I guess that's the whole point of the Special Offers, huh?

I got tired of seeing random book covers as advertisements on my OG PW so I went to amazon.com to try to pay them to remove the ads, however I couldn't find the link after several minutes of fumbling through their portal. In the end I chatted with a CS rep online, told them I was looking to remove advertisements from my PW but couldn't find the link to pay the $20 fee, and they just removed Special Offers for free "as an exception" without me asking for any special treatment.

Pretty good CS IMHO, but they did either remove the functionality to remove SO's from my PW via the web UI or they just removed the ability to pay to remove altogether. Not sure.

That is good CS. I've had them remove the ads from a used Touch, very nice of them.

Unfortunately, the link is still there for my PW, under Manage Your Content and Devices.
