Would you like to see the return of agency pricing with no discount?
Just a survey to see what readers on MobileRead think on the possible return of agency pricing with no discount.

Why would someone want to willingly pay more than they have to? Most of it is going to the publisher and not the author. My perception is that the publisher is greedy and short sighted.

You need a "I don't care" option.

Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I've never been concerned about the price of a book. Why didn't you put a "don't care" option on the poll?

Agreed. I want the authors that I like to keep writing books so I can read them, thus I have no problem paying them enough money to keep them doing it.

I hate Price fixing.
I also hate the fake 'List Price' some products use so they can always offer a discount ![]() Deep discounters hurt the little retailer for a number of reasons: 1) They can't usually buy at the Wholesale purchase discount tier that the big guys do. 2) A greater % of the profits they do make go to overhead (rent, wages) 3) The big guys 'cherry pick' the high volume titles, skimming the volume sales away from the fuller service seller. |

The are no 'general' full service sellers in my area that I know of. They are all specialty stores. They were forced into this niche not because of Amazon, but because of chains such as Barnes and Noble and Borders. |

![]() Keeping in mind that books are a product like any other, not some mystical paragon of inherent value to society... Why no, I don't want to see products that are currently at one price point be arbitrarily raised in price. That has me paying more without getting any greater value in return, compared to what I used to get. ![]() Quote:
If so, please send me some. ![]() |

I mean exactly what I said: that I simply don't care about the price of a book. All fiction ebooks are cheap enough. It's a matter of complete indifference to me whether a book costs £3 or £5. If I want it, I'll buy it. Time is more important to me than money.

If it was a reasonable price I'd be ok too, but for most fiction $13 to $17 is too much. That seems to be what they charge for new books.

Now, if it's a new-to-me author, I might be a bit more hesitant to spend as much, and look in the library or decide to read something else. |
