I've got the latest version of Calibre. I was editing some books today and I don't know what I did, I must have hit a key by mistake, but suddenly the "modified" column showed today's date for all my books. Any idea what could have caused this? Might this be reversable?

No, I edited a few books one after another. And I don't remember marking and selecting all books by mistake.

If they share a common TAG, and you add a book with a different case, they all get updated (because the spelling had to change(?) in the backup OPF)
eg. Science fiction => Science Fiction |

@LucyOne - Did you add a custom column - if so which type?

My books all have different tags.
I have some custom columns, one where I mark Y/N and one where I choose between two alternatives. But I don't do anything in these columns when this occured. |

Happened to me, too, a few days ago...
I think I had added a custom column (text as tags) but then without even starting to fill it I deleted it. [but I've done that other times without the result of now having all the books with the same modified date (in older versions of calibre)]. |

Looks like it's a bug then, thanks for the feedback.

Adding, removing, or editing the metadata of any custom column will update the lastmod date for every book next time calibre is restarted. Changing the template of a composite custom column (built from other columns) is considered a metadata change. This will happen even if the column is added and then removed before calibre is restarted. The reason to update all books is to ensure that calibre's metadata.opf files contain the latest information.

chaley just posted the definitive answer on that
The case change effects 'issue' you mentioned for Tags also effects Publisher. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-12-2014 at 07:25 AM. |

Thanks to this thread here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=154780 I added a custom column with the added date which I can use for sorting now, since the modified date doesn't fit my needs anymore.

Quote:
Date is the date the original Record was created. Normally this does not change (on its own). But... If you happen to create empty books to track your paper library or use as a Wishlist, it will not reflect the date that the actual BOOK file is added. Your custom field will allow you to track that |
