question on epub-covers and sorting of collections
I have a T1, and still like it
![]() but there are some small 'issues' I like to have your thoughts on: - when I load some books, I noticed that the covers take time to show up, or don't show up at all in the collection, only the two arrows are displayed - I noticed also that collection-names are not sorted correctly in alphabetical order, especially when I have changed a detail in the name of the collection. any idea? |

I don't have a T1, so hopefully someone with one will help out.
But for collections, I previous posted the instructions in Post #2 of this thread, that should help you out if you're willing to use Calibre. Personally, I'd be lost without Calibre, it's a fantastic way to keep your catalog of ebooks sorted and organized. |

I cannot be too exact in my response but will give it a go as, apart from Ripplinger's good advice, no one else seems to be offering help.
The delay while covers show up after loading books is while the T1 is making thumbnails of them all to display in collections, etc. If you hunt down image files such as .jpg (and maybe .png) in the T1 while connected to a PC by USB you will find a folder with a thumbnail image in it for every book. For a few books it does not take long, but it can take quite a while if you load a larger number of books at once. You do not have to wait while it does this if the book you want to read, for example, is visible, as even with no cover showing, you can open it. I think that you can even turn the T1 off before it has finished and it will just pick the job up again when next turned on, but I have not tested this for more than a few books to see if it delays turning off until finished. If there is no cover in the book then in my experience the reader shows a blank page on its display of collections, etc. for that book, so I do not know why you are getting the two arrows, it is not something that I have experienced. It is possible that it is due to a problem with the book itself. For myself, I have not noticed any sorting issues with collections. But as Ripplinger suggests, I use Calibre to load and manage collections on the T1. It may be that if you manage collections while working on the T1 itself, that one has to return to the Home screen before the collection database sort refreshes, but I have not checked this. Great T1 feature is you can turn off display of covers in library saving processing time and battery trying to display covers in library. Displaying covers works OK for less than 1000 books in library but up around 2000 books locks up the reader as it tries to process the covers. Over 1/2 of the covers on my reader are worthless as thumbnails because the are unreadable. Thankfully Sony readers display Title and Author captions so poor covers or no covers isn't a problem.
Author sort by T1 is by first name then last name. This can be fixed in Calibre by changing Zane Gray to Gray, Zane. I chose to remember authors first name. Author search in library works well for me. On home screen touch Books button. Then in library touch button to left of magnify glass to select sort by Date,Title, Author, File Name, or Latest Read. If you touch page number at bottom of library page, up pops slider for quickly scrolling through the library. Above the slider is Book Title at top of list on page or Authors Name caption. I use stylus to move to button. As i move the slide button the caption quickly changes as you slide button to right or left indicating position in library. (great feature) |

I have had a number of sony readers, currently using a T2, the author sort and title sort both seem to work on the right hand fields marked author and title sort in the metadata screen in Calibre.
I use the tags field to sort the authors then code the titles to get them in series order The sony will group the titles by tag based on the Author name as written in this field, example Caine Rachel or Rachel Caine depending on how you fill the Tag field. The same with the title sort field, books for each author will sort alphabetically so if you want them in series order you need to put a sequential field first before the title. If you use calibre as your library and to control your sony this should work and make books easy to find in the reader. I have about 3000 books on my T2 and they all have covers |

Thanks for your suggestions.
I have already solved the issue with the covers taking a lot of time to display: reconverting the epubs to epub via calibre..... this solved teh problem with covers. for the alphabetically display of collections.... maybe I should give it a try with calibre it's annoying that collection CB comes before AB... |

Yeah it's better to turn off the cover display in your books list unless you really really want to see them .. go to your books list and select the icon that looks like a list.. your books list will load much faster you will save memory and you will avoid a lot of cover issues... in your collections do you re-sort after you make changes ? that might help but sorting is always a bit iffy given that you have spaces and likely odd characters in a title..

All of my collections are sorted alphabetically and I do use calibre to create them.
Even though all of my books are/have been converted epub to epub I still get the arrows thing unless I keep the reader awake till it finishes processing( I eject and replug to USB port till it finishes) but I have a lot of books on SD card. Helen |
