Buying from amazon.com in the UK

Hi there,
I have bought some ebooks from amazon.com, whilst living in the UK. It was ok for several books, as I had correctly transferred my account over, but then all of a sudden it said "payment revision required", even though my card is ok, has enough money and all the rest. Any clues as to what is going on and what I should do? The books are Star Wars books not available on amazon.co.uk.

You should probably contact Amazon. Their customer service is generally very good.

Amazon are given permission by publishers to sell ebooks only in those regions for which the publisher has a contact with the copyright holder permitting them to distribute the ebook in that region.

So Amazon might not have the legal authority to sell these books in the UK. Which would be why they aren't available in the UK store.

And if that's so, Amazon don't want to sell this books to you in the UK, as that could get them in trouble with the publisher who does have the right to sell the ebooks in the UK.

And so Amazon have checks to try to make sure this doesn't happen. I suspect that you've run into one of those, since you seem to be in the UK, but are trying to buy ebooks that are only available in the US.

If you want to buy books from the US Amazon store, you're going to have to jump through many more hoops than you have at the moment, probably involving a second Amazon account, fake US address, gift cards, proxy servers and possibly other stuff. Most of which is against Amazon's T&Cs, which means they might close your Amazon account, and never let you reopen another one.

Perhaps it's just not worth it?

Oh well, thanks for the replies. I used the "tell the publisher" option on the books that aren't available on the kindle in the UK. Probably won't do anything, but it might help.
