adding catagory for read/unread, and books with/without chapter breaks (toc)?
I'll be honest, I had some difficulties in the past with calibre.. and I'm rebuilding my library. So far, everything is working...

.. I'm trying to keep track of books that are read/unread. I added the column myself, but I'd like a catagory (on the right side "browser" window) that I can toggle from read/unread.

Second problem stems from eBooks without chapter breaks (toc)... Is there a way for calibre to display those with chapter breaks (toc) and those without? I know there will be some false-positives, but that way I know which ones I might upgrade if I find a newer version.

Just make a saved search or Virtual Library
#read:false <=assume your read status is T/F (and you called the column read

The Quality check Plugin can mark EPUBS.
Check EPUB Structure: Check NCX with <3 entries

I didn't have a clue about that plugin, and it seemed to work great.
.. I have many more epubs without toc than I thought

poor/old sources. IF you get that with any new purchase- send it back for a refund!

it is not to hard to fix with the editor, but sometimes it is less hassle to find a better version of the book.

no toc tends to correlate with poor quality throughout...
