calibre doesn't show attached iPhone
The calibre User Manual has:
The Device action allows you to view the books in the main memory or storage cards of your device, or to eject the device (detach it from calibre). This icon shows up automatically on the main calibre toolbar when you connect a supported device. You can click on it to see the books on your device. You can also drag and drop books from your calibre library onto the icon to transfer them to your device. Conversely, you can drag and drop books from your device onto the library icon on the toolbar to transfer books from your device to the calibre library. I plugged my iPhone 4 into a USB port. ITunes recognizes the device. Windows Explorer recognizes the device. Calibre does not. If I shut down Calibre and reopen it, the Device icon still doesn't appear. Elsewhere Kovid says: My device is not detected by calibre Follow these steps to find the problem: Make sure that you are connecting only a single device to your computer at a time. Do not have another calibre supported device like an iPhone/iPad etc. at the same time. Check. Make sure you are running the latest version of calibre. The latest version can always be downloaded from the calibre website Check. Ensure your operating system is seeing the device. That is, the device should be mounted as a disk that you can access using Windows explorer or whatever the file management program on your computer is. Check. In calibre, go to Preferences->Ignored Devices and check that your device is not being ignored That option doesn't show up. In calibre, go to Preferences->Plugins->Device Interface plugin and make sure the plugin for your device is enabled, the plugin icon next to it should be green when it is enabled. IPhone isn't one of the listed devices. If all the above steps fail, go to Preferences->Miscellaneous and click debug device detection with your device attached and post the output in this forum Here it is: Spoiler:
Looks like the facility found my iIPhone but calibre doesn't like it. I have the Kindle app on my iIPhone. Any suggestions? Thanks. Last edited by GRiker; 05-08-2014 at 04:45 PM. |

@asqueue, you need the iOS reader applications plugin. See the Calibre + iDevices: Start here sticky for more information.

Thanks, G.
It says: The easiest way to browse your calibre collection on your Apple device (iPad/iPhone/iPod) is by using the calibre content server, which makes your collection available over the net. First perform the following steps in calibre Set the Preferred Output Format in calibre to EPUB (The output format can be set under Preferences->Interface->Behavior) Set the output profile to iPad (this will work for iPhone/iPods as well), under Preferences->Conversion->Common Options->Page Setup Convert the books you want to read on your iDevice to EPUB format by selecting them and clicking the Convert button. Turn on the Content Server by clicking the Connect/Share button and leave calibre running. You can also tell calibre to automatically start the content server via Preferences->Sharing over the net. Where it offered to connect to an IP address it filled in an address that is one number off from the IP address of my network (n.n.n.132 instead of n.n.n.133). The Connect/share dialog in calibre shows that network connection as running. As far as I can see I can't access ebooks that are on my iPhone from calibre on my computer nor can I access ebooks that are on my computer from my iPhone. What should I be doing? The last three digits are part of your computer's IP address on the network. For example, a typical address on a home network might be 192.168.0.132. Every other device on your home network will have differing digits in the last set.
Assuming that you've started the content server, open Safari on your iPhone, then navigate to the calibre server: Code:
http://192.168.0.132:8080 G Last edited by GRiker; 05-08-2014 at 05:51 PM. |

That works! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now I just have to get some formatting issues resolved, but I'll do that elsewhere.
