Most of us use the zoom feature to read PDFs with a two column layout and we are too lazy to convert or the conversion process would take such amount of time it becomes impractical to do so.
Also, whenever there's a wishlist for the next firmware update we agree once and again that a "fixed zoom" option would be a gift from heaven (ie: Sony) I'm thinking that maybe we could go a step foward and make that "fixed zoom" somethig else. Like maybe the zoom could have like two settings: fixed and freelook. Freelook is what we have now and we could "lock" it to stay like that until we "unlocked" it. Fixed could have like a setting for "two columns" and other common layouts. What do you guys think? Was I overthinking? |

I would like to see a zoom where you can adjust as it is now (slider) but also with a numeric input, say 44%, that way once you've found a good zoom for your current book you just input one and leave there. I would also like to see the arrows disappear user selectable. That way you can zoom in a little more, say 46%. AND, when you can do that, I would like to see that you can turn the page without changing zoom or orientation. How 'bout 'em tatters? How they missed that on release I don't know.

Totally agree! I am reading many scanned PDFs and even if I crop margins, PSR700 still "makes" them. That would be great to have this feature of fixed zoom (and use the stylus to set the width!) and continuous view, i.e. while scrolling you can see the bottom of the previous page and the top of the next one. Anyway, the first option is the most needed one. Is there a way to convey this to Sony the way that they actually add this option?! I believe it will not take much of their time anyway. |

Realy a great idea. I don't have the device yet. But I am seriously concerned about PDF tech-docu reading experience, since I read also a lot scientific papers.
It would be great if we may provide this feedback to SONY |

I dont have the 700 yet but with my old PRS500 there were very few updates to the firmware that I can think of. Sony is probably working on that larger reader now and I doubt they will have many useful updates in the near future. I hope they continue to support their readers and don't just move on to the next device. The problem is that they need to continually support them because the devices aren't perfect yet and they are the only ones that can provide the apps that we need for the devices.
I hope they are considering customer loyalty and don't abandon the people who got in early. Irex has abandoned updates for a device that they still sell ![]() ![]() |

I was salivating in front of videos of the PRS-700 earlier today. But when I read a thread like this one I am less impressed.
That is when you realize the importance of having free open source software inside the things you buy. The 700 has great advantages over my Lbook (stylus, fast interaction, moving the pdf with the stylus, light, notes,...), but you can only hope (rather hopelessly unfortunately) for improvements. In the case of the open source GPL software of the Hanlin/Lbook/Bebook, we can get in touch with some of the developers from several countries working on continuously improving the firmware, and even improve it ourselves. |

Hi, this is my first post.
Today i noticed that the bad thing about seeing cropped pdf's in landscape is that the reader always splits the page in two pieces. When the pieces are larger than the screen, the reader zooms out and then white margins appear (right and left), even if you remove the margins with pdfcrop. Any sugestions about this? |
