Been trying to add a 'Series' column to my device view. I go to Preferences > Change Behaviour > Interface > Add Columns and check the 'Series' box but the series does not appear when when I exit and display device. This works fine for the Library but not for Device view.
Great software. Bob |

I think that the device view is not customizable.

Confirming
What is seen, is what you get. Many devices do not support metadata retrieval. Calibre tries to match what it finds to the Library and marks the 'On Device' status. OP Just what are you trying to accomplish by seeing Series info from the device view? (Calibre has many ways that can be used to get from here -> there ![]() |

Series is among the info sent, at least on my Kindle which doesn't support series metadata. It shows up in Book Details (device view). So maybe those columns should be there. What is the worst that could happen, it will show up blank? |

My reason for requesting a series column in the device display: when I have a number of books by the same author loaded in my device, I can quickly see which is the next book in a series without having to go back to library display.
Mind you, its' not a big deal. It just seemed to me that the option was there through preferences but didn't work. Bob |

The thing is, it shows up in the Book Details panel of the Device View. So given that, it kind of makes sense to display it as a column as well, since the info is already there.
What does Kovid think about this? |

While looking at the device view is an option what you seek is easily available in the library view. It seems that everything can easily be done from the library view. Since I never use the device view what are the benefits to using this view?

I think that you reallys houldn't de using device view for most things, as DO points out, the information is all there is library view which is much more powerful/comprehensive.
I have no interest in replicating that power in the device view, it's a lot of work for not much gain. Device view is mostly intended for dealing with books on the device that aren't in the calibre library. |

You're right its all there in library view. As I said earlier: its' not a big deal. It just seemed to me that the option was there through preferences but doesn't work.
