Can't Convert or open large book

Every time I try to convert or open a book I have I get an error: IndexError: string index out of range

Ugh... Conversions of Bible's (and dictionaries) have always been problematic for calibre!

Yep. Also all those huge Delphi Classic books. I've had much better luck using kindlegen to create a combined mobi/azw3 file and then using the kindle unpack plugin to split them up.

surely there are evangelistic folks who will happily GIVE you a bible in any format you like - from stone tablets upwards

and as the author(s) are either 75+ years dead, or immortal, ( depending on your religious views) the concept of author copyright is N/A ??

so why the need to convert one ?

as for dictionaries - every reader I've ever owned ( & I've had 3 different makes already) came with a handful of dictionaries built-in or free to download

Because a lot of the good ones are indeed under recent copyrights from the companies that produce them

as for dictionaries - every reader I've ever owned ( & I've had 3 different makes already) came with a handful of dictionaries built-in or free to download

Because there are other languages than English, Spanish and French and/or other special use dictionaries.

I am touching up a KJV and need it in AZW3. And ditto jgaiser, most bibles are copywrited.

fascinating - I always thought the the bible became the original public domain book, once whatsisname invented the printing press

I've had the same problem with at least one book I bought from Mobipocket (which is owned by Amazon) yrs ago. It refuses to convert (probably in part due to its size) and as is can't be loaded onto my Kindle reader. Never considered Kindlegen. I'll have to try it out and see if it solves the problem. Thanks for the tip jgaiser.
