Need a big e-reader but all seem so old... Help plz

Hi,

I have been reading and reading during the last week. I have come to the conclusion that I need a 9.7 e-reader. I read mainly technical documents / pdfs and my eyes are not the best (I'm getting old ). I have check Poketbook pro 912, Onyx m92, ectaco netbook and Icarus Reader Excel. The problem, all seem really old with first release around 2011. I wouldn't like to pay today for something with past technology. Do anybody know if this devices get refreshed with better screens, etc...? Are they as I suspect the same devices sold back in 2011? Are they still a good option today or will you wait for the new ones in 2014?.

Don't know why folks worry about eInk readers... what changes do you need from Yr to Yr??

At 200$ still The best buy for big eInk (after installed KindlePdfViewer thereon !!!) for those who don't mind using another tablet or e-ink simultaneously for handwriting and drawing on pdfs, otherwise it is M92 or Icarus for 100 $ more (if pleased with its handwriting performance).

Hopefully the new M95 or M96 will change that in three months time, but i can see Kindle DX next year further lowered to 150 $ with M92 not lower than 250 $.

The DXG is a great device. It is not running the latest and greatest firm ware but there are hacks you can use to make it an even better PDF reader.

Hi Hexdump! I have been searching and sitting on the fence for quite awhile about this. This forum has a lot of great advice! I too need a decent size ereader for PDF's with the ability to highlight/underline and make notes. PLUS it has to have eink. Easier on the eyes. I have an ipad. Hard on the eyes. I get ADHD'ish while trying to read for too long. Kindle DX great idea Amazon, but you CANNOT highlight or annotate, which makes that device pretty useless for PDF's. Looked a lot at Jetbook Color. I was very excited about that device. Unfortunately, not too many people seem too happy with it. Plus no wi-fi, even though it advertises as having wi-fi. I still wish it were a better product. Color eink fascinates me for who knows why. I almost bought the Onyx Boox M92 thru Booxtor. You may want to look into that here. Booxtor has a devoted following and everyone seems pretty happy. I spent hours reading posts from his following and his replies. He even has vids on youtube. The fact of the matter is that I got way to busy with school and didn't buy it. Snobby Sony came out with their 13.3 reader, boy was I happy until I found out how impossible it would be to get + the price, forget it! Now I'm waiting for Pocket book 13.3 CAD reader. I emailed Pocket book and they said this device WILL read PDF's. Then I will decide between that and OnyxBoox M92. I hope this helps….

I can underline pdfs on Kindle DX and quickly jump to any underlined part using the list of all underlined parts, because I use kindlepdfviewer, not native pdf reader that has poor zooming and other capabilities.

If there is need for annotation, color recognition, dictionaries, multitasking, quicker quick-referencing etc. I simply simultaneously use tablet or another e-reader while reading on DX.

Sony DPT-S1 is far too expensive for my liking too, but I shall definitely buy M96 next month if under 350 € in Europe.
