Calibre Help Needed

Well, recently, I lost my portable hard drive with my most recent copy my Calibre library. I know Calibre tells you to back up before every new install, and I thought I had.

However, when looking for it, the last time that I had saved the whole database was last November. So I started the tedious process of re-adding all my books, and setting up Calibre again. Well, since there is a Find Duplicates plugin, and I didn't want to sit around trying to find all the books I had bought since then, I just imported all of them again. Sadly, when I was adding books I got more than a few odd entries. Some just had odd 0's and all kinds of things. lol Never happened before. Most of those were ones I could delete anyway.

Here are a few things that I haven't been able to find in the searches here. I am sure they probably ARE here, but I can't seem to find them. I looked around for a bit and found some of my issues, but not all of them. If you know the answer and know the link in the forum, feel free to point me that direction.

1. When trying to download new metadata, it's coming in sometimes in Spanish.
2. Brand new books that had a description/series/etc before, now have barely any metadata listed, or missing the series name/book #, etc.
3. I accidentally imported my writing research directory and have odd titles and authors. How do I remove them from the Author/Series information?

I am sure there is more, but having to re-do this again is really frustrating, but as I said, it's my fault. Now I have my portable drive set to back up every day. lol

Metadata depends on the download plugin, some sources are better than others. Try looking at different metadata source plugins. Goodreads is one of the few that retrieves series info IIRC.

If metadata is coming in in spanish, perhaps your OS locale is somehow set to a spanish location? There is also a language setting somewhere in calibre I believe.

+1 to Picking and choosing AND Configuring (what field data to use) alternate Metadata and cover (and priority) sources

@wolfskies - Maybe the books have language set to Spanish even though text is in English. Tap 'i' on a book that gets Spanish metadata to see if that's so, or look at Languages in Tag Browser, click Spanish if it's there.
