Analog on Kobo

pdurrant has recently posted about Kobo making Analog available by subscription or as individual issues from their store. However, it appears that these are available only for tablets (and phones?) and not for their eInk devices, which is more than a little annoying.

As I currently buy Analog using an Android phone via Nook. I transfer the downloaded book to my Kobo Aura. Doing the same via Kobo instead of Nook would not be a major problem, assuming I could transfer the books in the same way. Has anybody tried this yet?

Having just purchased the June 2014 issue from Nook, I'll wait until next month to try the Kobo route, unless somebody else beats me to it of course.

thanks!

I believe that the issue is the format used for the tablet is not at all compatible with the eReader devices; so even if you were able to retrieve the data from a tablet / phone, it is not in ePub format.

So, I wrote to Kobo about this. This is the response I got:
Quote:
Eric, we would like to please you the best way possible for this is what we aim to do, however Analog Magazines are not compatible with eReader simply because eReaders are e-Ink devices which display black and white while magazines display coloured pictures which cannot be displayed on eReaders. Eric, we are sure you do not want to read a magazine in black and white especially that pictures show colours and give you that real effect of a magazine.
Sigh.

I have replied to them, noting that an issue of Analog is more akin to a paperback book than a glossy magazine and that the only colour is on the cover. But I doubt this will make any difference.

I do despair sometimes.

I forgot to thank you for this. What format is used by magazines on tablets, out of curiousity?

I will, until Kobo change, continue to use B&N.

Good grief. That is an amazingly silly move on their part. Perhaps they'll change once they realise that Analog and Asimovs have B&W interiors.

As usual the deep thinking classifiers of the universe have pondered for several thousand microseconds and determined that if someone like a publisher has classified it, that must be all there is to it! What is wrong with you lot, do you expect you will be allowed to turn the universe topsy-turvy just to suit the actual reality of the situation? How dare you! By now you should be cognizant that fact has nothing to do with the truth!
