Custom Column on Content Server: 404 Not Found
I have several custom columns in use in my Calibre library. When I look at my library via the content server, a couple of the those custom columns come back with a "404 Not Found". Can someone point me to the part of the manual/FAQ or this forum which sets me in the right direction to figure this problem out?
I'm running Calibre 1.13.0 and Win 7, 64-bit inside a home network. Thank you, Anne. |

Many things have changed since 1 dot 13 (the Editor for one) Have you tried the latest Version? Calibre is always stomping out bugs and that problem may have been addressed. ![]() ![]() |

I have 4 readers who will use my library. To make it easier for me to load books for them (until I find a better way which let's them do it), I've created 4 custom columns. They all follow the same format as the one for me: Lookup name: anne_read Column Heading: Anne Column Type: Text, but with a fixed set of permitted values Show checkmarks Values: past, future I have verified that all four custom columns are configured identically. Mine works. Two of the other three work (the fourth doesn't have any data yet and isn't showing up on the content server). Anne. |

I just checked my tweaks area and it's set to: Code:
# Set custom metadata fields that the content server will or will not display. content_server_will_display = ['*'] content_server_wont_display = [] You asked if I had set the others a long time ago -- I'm not sure I understand your question... I created my column first. Then I created the columns for the other users. I'm pretty sure one of the additional columns *had* been working on the content server... Also, I noticed a typo in my previous message which changes things: the 3 additional users are NOT working... even though I am now running Calibre 1.29. Anne. |

In my experience, if a custom column is set to not display, then it shouldn't show up and lead to a 404, it should just not be there.

I think I figured it out. If the custom field doesn't have any books marked for the values defined, then it displays a 404 Not Found. The values for my custom column are "past" and "future" (because in the English language, the word "read" can be past tense or future tense). I didn't have any books in my library marked for one of the columns, at all. And for the others, I didn't have *both* options represented.
Seems like that could become a problem, since eventually ALL the books in my library would be set to "past" for each reader and therefore there will be no "future" listings. (Ok, highly unlikely, but it *is* possible.) Does that make this a bug for custom columns? Anne. |

@annekaelber: is the content server using a virtual library?

You would see it in Preferences / Sharing over the net, or you would have set calibre to start up using a virtual library in Preferences / Behavior.
BTW: I can replicate this problem using a virtual library, which is why I asked. It could be that the VL in fact is not the cause, but is instead a trigger for something else. I am looking at the code now in hopes I can figure this out. |

I found the problem, and it is a calibre bug. It will happen with any custom column type where only one value is used. Explanation: if there is only one value used, the content server skips the "Values" page and goes directly to the books. There is an error there where the custom column lookup name is corrupted, so no books were found.
I have submitted a fix to Kovid. If all goes well the fix (or one like it) should be in calibre source in the next day or two, and in the next release. |
