Glo light quirk or normal behaviour?
Quick question: my husband just bought a glo, and we thought the light was not working, as the light switch only made the sun icon appear and disappear. To change the light, even to the minimum level, one has to tap on the sun icon after switching the light on (which produces no effect). The problem is that this does not happen consistently, and sometimes the light switch does operate the light. I assume this is not normal, but before returning the device I thought I'd ask you, in case I am missing something obvious (firmware version should be 3.2.0, though I am not 100% sure, and I cannot check until tonight).

Do you mean that if before turning off the light, it's set at say 20%, when you turn it on again, it's back to 1%?
There was a bug with some lighted devices and a previous firmware but I can't remember if that was something like this. If I find the thread, I'll edit this post. Meanwhile, have you tried a factory reset? |

It does sound like the bug that samhy described. It is in 3.2.0 and I think all the 3.x.x firmware so far. The workaround is to make sure the light level is not 1% when turning the light off. Hopefully it will be fixed n the next firmware.

sahmy, david, thank you - I will check tonight (firmware version and light behaviour at various intensities), and also search the forum for the light bug - not having a lighted device I did not follow those arguments too closely until now.

yes, indeed this seems to be the relevant thread. The Glo is on FW 3.2.0, and it seems to display the exact behaviour that PeterT is describing. Guess it is a matter of waiting for the next update!

I think you should have entitled this "Glo light quirky behavior normal?"
I think they had this 1% bug a version or two back, fixed it, then broke it again... I also think they need to hire Orkin to handle their bug tracking. If he's had it at 1% for night reading, he'd probably like the Night Mode hack better. Last edited by TechniSol; 04-04-2014 at 11:27 PM. Reason: cuz |

I'm sick of Kobo quirks and waiting for the next upgrade. I've been doing it since I bought it last August. I guess I don't want to wait any more...

I checked it out again yesterday, and now the Glo keeps memory of the 1% light, so go figure... I think I will install both night mode and the gestures: I've got to study it more (I was not following light issues too much until now), but if I understood correctly that will allow light control with two fingers as for the Aura. |

I meant only wording it that way as a jest, probably not a terribly clever one at that. Certainly, it was not intended as grammatical advice.
I had the gestures and night mode hacks installed with the previous version of firmware, they worked great. Be sure to uninstall the two finger lighting control hack prior to upgrading the firmware. I failed to do so and had a Glo with no touch input until I performed a factory reset! I assume anyone with that hack will continue to do well to check the thread first... Hi Technisol, of course no offence taken! I thought it may be a joke, but I did not get it: should also stress that I am pretty bad at that
![]() Thanks for the tip on the firmware, I still have to get up to speed on lighted models. |
