Bought a 'lost' kindle...
Rather than send it back to the Ebay seller (who I believe sold it in good faith) - is there any way I can reinstall the OS etc to have it register with Amazon to download my books? I'm quite happy messing about with things rather than trust the postal system to get it back....its a touch model. Thanks.

You should contact Amazon immediately and tell them that this Kindle has been stolen or lost.

If you know it is a "lost" Kindle, why would you not try to a.) get your money back and b.) do everything you can to reunite it with the person that "lost" it?

Have contacted Amazon this evening - they informed me but wouldnt pass me the 'losers' details or any other details. The seller has informed me he bought a 'job lot' of kindles and has simply sold them on (he was selling 9 or so of them at the same time). I'm quite relaxed about having a go at flashing/fixing it to be able to re-register it. Amazon dont want to re-unite it and I have no other way of doing so.

I don't think flashing is going to do anything. I believe Kindles are registered based on their serial numbers. You'd be able to sideload non-DRMd ebooks, but that's about it. I'd send it back to the seller for a refund.

You'll never get a black-listed Kindle registered with Amazon. There's nothing to try.

Return it to Amazon they will mail it to the person. Don't say they wont cause a friend lost his & got it back.

Hopefully you bought it with a credit card so you can call your credit card company and get the charges reversed. Else -- tough luck.
