Calibre Error: Bad Location
I wonder if someone can possibly help me.
Somehow or other, I managed to create a Calibre library in error that does not have a drive letter before it in the dropdown box "choose calibre library to work with". I would really like to delete it, but don't know where to find what seems to be a non existant library. When I select it from the dropdown menu, I get this message: ERROR: Bad location C:|Users\Pat\Desktop\Calibre Kobo Library is not an existing folder. I would like to remove it from my dropdown menu if possible, but don't know how to. Can anyone help me with this minor problem? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, but it doesn't give me an option to delete a library which technically doesn't exist. It only gives me the option to delete the libraries I want to keep.
I've actually ended up with a few empty libraries that still appear in the quick switch list and I really would like to clear the list up (along with the non existant library which has no drive letter before it). |

You can have un-registered Libraries (those that are not on the list). These are just normal Folders in all other respects. You register a Library with Create/Switch. The Library becomes Active and the old and remaining (there are count limits) registered libraries appear on the Quick-switch list. The Remove: <selection> is just a housekeeping feature. To REALLY make the Library go, you clean the list, then go to the indicated (popup) location and nuke the folder. |

Not too sure what you mean by clean the list, but since one library has no location at all, I can't nuke it. I guess I'm just going to accept I alway will have an untidy quick switch dropdown list.

I'd check with Kovid, but it looks like libraries are listed within the file "gui.json".
Mine shows Code:
"library_usage_stats": { "C:/Users/Peter/Documents/Test NewDB": 2, "C:/Users/Peter/Documents/Sue Test": 3, "C:/Users/Peter/Documents/Nora": 4, "C:/Users/Peter/Documents/Peter's Library": 1435 }, |

Many thanks Peter! Will try that tomorrow! Btw, can you tell me where I should be able to find the file "gui.json"?

Under Preferences ==> Advanced ==> Miscellaneous there is a button "Open calibre configuration directory".
Or you can look in "%APPDATA%\calibre" |

When you try to switch to a library that no longer exists, you should get a popup message that says that no library was found at the location specified and it will give you the option of either forgetting the library or specifying a new location for it.
WHat version of calibre are you running and can you click the show details button on the error message you get and post the details. |

Thank you Kovid. I have never been given the option of forgetting the library. Once I turn my computer on later today, I will check what version I am using and post the details of the error message.
Also thank you eschwartz. |

Thanks theducks!
Did as you said and I got this result: "library_usage_stats": { "E:/Calibre Ipad Library": 281, "E:/Calibre Kindle Library": 3, "E:/Calibre Kobo Library": 67 }, Unfortunately these are the libraries I want to keep, it's the one's which don't exist (or should no longer exist) that I wanted to get rid of. Never mind. Maybe I'll never get rid of those "libraries"! I'll just have to ignore them I guess! Many thanks for everyone's help! Last edited by Bermudagirl; 03-20-2014 at 12:34 PM. |
