Media Player / eBook Reader with mSATA SSD?
It seems the mobile device manufacturers have stagnated on SD card storage. This confuses me. Given the easy availability of 1TB and larger mSATA SSDs, why haven't they adopted mSATA SSDs in at least a few of their products?
I'd love to see a 5" Android tablet/phone with a mSATA SSD. Some will argue that this would raise the price. I think not, given that most uProcessors already have SATA on board, or the manufacturers make reference designs easily available that access SATA. The socket is not that expensive, and a 16GB mSATA SSD would be a decent starting point for most people. The added cost would be minimal. |

Actually the uProcessors used in eBook readers do not have sata on board. Instead they may have E Ink controller on board. There is no driving need for eSata since SD XC cards are arriving and are much cheaper and plenty fast while still being an external removable card. The micro SD XC can go to 128 Gig these days.
A tablet, however, is not an eBook reader although it can be used to read eBooks. I suspect that Android will have eSata at some point but it used ARM based processors, not Intel ones. Dale |
