Japanese format files handling

Hello!
As I'm now living in Japan, I mostly buy/ download books from stores like Sony and also Kindle books; they're usually mnh and AZW3 files, respectively.
I'm having some problems importing these files into calibre (not the AZW3 files from amazon US, just Japanese) and so were wondering if these aren't supported or I'm just missing something?
Thank you!

Define "problems importing them into calibre". You can import any file you like into calibre, whatsoever, it doesn't care.

And note that the calibre viewer does not support vertical text.

Sorry for the late reply!
Indeed I can import them into calibre, but for instance in the case of the MNH file (from sony) it says it's not in a recognizable format. Perhaps the viewer doesn't work because it's vertical text, but it also doesn't let me edit metadata or convert into another format.
I can edit the metadata of other DRM files, so I guess that's not the problem even if it's copyright protected?

MNH is not a format calibre knows anything about. That has nothing to do with vertical text support. It's simply a format none of calibre's developers have ever come across.
