Thumbs up

Thanks, Doc!

The Altsheler books are enjoyable, easy reads. He finds a way for his teen-aged protagonists to witness important historical events. There's a strong "we were there" vibe.

Typical for their time, these novels present a boy's view of war, that is, the worst horror and bloodshed are omitted. And Altsheler's young heroes are improbably competent, but that tendency is balanced by the way the author emphasizes the teamwork required for success.

Here I've been working to collect these and tidy them up, and someone's done a much better job of it! Good for them!

The various Altsheler series just cry out for the omnibus treatment. That would also have to be done by someone with better skills than I have. Anyone? Anyone?

The Altsheler novels are offered by Richard M. Woodward. Not only are they nicely formatted, but Mr. Woodward has also added photos of the historical figures involved in the stories. Very nicely done!

EpubMerge, which is an add-on to calibre, will join all the titles together, if I'm understanding you.

I frequently use this tool to create omnibus editions.

Now I'm up to 49! Gesh, this isn't rocket science! Wonder what my problem is? Hey...be nice with the answers! Remember what your mothers always told all of you, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all"!

He's since changed his page, but here is my breakdown of what I downloaded (with the totals put in next to the series):

The French & Indian War Series (6 vol.)
The Young Trailers Series (8 vol.)
The Great West Series (2 vol.)
The Civil War Series (8 vol.)
The World War Series (3 vol.)
The Texan Series (3 vol.)
19th Century Novels 6 vol.)
20th Century Novels (13 vol.)
21st Century Novel (1 vol. - if my memory is correct)
Short Stories & Miscellany (2 vol. - if my memory is correct)

This adds up to 52 titles.
