Calibre removes images from books
Hi there, I wonder if someone could help me with a Calibre problem please.
I have noticed that Calibre has removed the images from a book, obviously during the conversion process. I didnt know this was happening until I sent a book to someone else and they pointed out to me that my copy was missing images. This was a book I had just bought, and since I didnt know the images were supposed to be there, I didnt know they were missing. When I bought the book, it had no cover or metadata so I added them and then converted the book from epub to epub to lock the cover and metadata into the file. A little experimenting with the book shows me that the images remain intact in Calibre, until I convert the book and then they change to the ? symbol. This is what I am referring too. This is how the book looks in ADE, as purchased straight from Kobo, and this is also how it looks before conversion in Calibre: ![]() And this is how it looks in Calibre's eBook Viewer, after it has been converted from epub to epub: ![]() When the book is on my Nook, there is nothing at all where the design should be, just blank page. Is there a setting in Calibre that I can change so that these images are kept please? Thanks ![]() |

@Chapter One After downloading metadata and cover try the Polish (as in shine) Book feature - highlight the book and press 'P', check the Update metadata and Update cover options

calibre most definitely does not remove images during conversion. If you have a book for which that is happening, follow the steps in: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=186697

Your first post seemed to "show" before and after images, showing before and after images a second time is meaningless. Read the link provided and try again or simply take this issue to a bug report as outlined in the link.

@DoctorOhh - The first post showed ADE v Ebook Viewer, second one showed Ebook Viewer before and after - I think the OP was shoring up his/her position.
I just checked a 'book' with chapter and scene break baubles. The original was converted from PDF to PRC using Mobipocket, I then I used calibre to convert the PRC to EPUB and RTF. The baubles were retained in the PRC, the EPUB and RTF. I'm thinking that there maybe something not quite right with the OPs original EPUB. Maybe the OP could run it past some of the checks in the Quality Check PI or that epub checker Kovid doesn't like - but I don't know much about that stuff, so I can't say more than that. BR |

I think you may be right. All the OP has to do is follow guidelines in the link and either the problem with the book will be explained by Kovid or the "bug" in calibre will be fixed. No need to jump through any other hoops at this point. |

Those images (shown) are the fleurons (decorations) that are sometimes used in chapter headings and scene breaks.
Are they MISSING or just broken? Caution: Do NOT save unless you are sure of your HTML and CSS (EPUB) foo. Use the e-book Editor feature to examine: 1) the IMG (SRC) link 2) the Image section in the book browser pane for the Precise same spelling. Any mismatch is a Broken link If the Image is NOT in the Image section list, the original book is probably getting the image from you filesystem or from the NET (step 1 above should have shown a HTTP or drive letter/name) |

When checking the image path/name do not forget that as well as the same spelling it must also have identical case. A case mismatch is the sort of problem that can cause the issue on some systems and not others (depending on whether the system in question in question treats the names as case sensitive). I believe that the ePub standard says that case matters but not all readers enforce this.
