My current favourites are Cuckold and God's Little Soldier by Kiran Nagarkar. Unfortunately e-book versions do not seem to be available. Cuckold is a historical fiction. God's Little Soldier is just one of its kind. You have to read it to know it It is voluminous though!

Same, I really don't have a favorite anything. There are things that I like more than others but nothing I can point to as favorites.

My favorite books are the ones I'm reading right now. When I move them to the Finished Books category, they cease to be favorites.

Not going to do it.
I don't think I could boil down "Favorites" to anything less than 75-100 books.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I'm not a guy who shows emotion easily but the last chapter or two of that book had me blubbering like a baby. It's my number one because it made me feel more deeply than anything I've ever read.

That's how you know when you've found a good book...it draws emotion.

A Good Book

That's how you know you've found a good book:

1). It draws emotion.

2). It has a lasting impact...the feeling stays with you.

It's harder to accomplish that with books. Books require more effort on the reader's part than anything. With movie's, music, plays, etc you don't have to use your imagination to paint the picture...they do most of the painting for you.

Don Quixote. It's a book I can keep coming back to. It helps that I don't have to read the whole thing when I want to come back to it. There are other books that I loved reading, but don't have the same inclination to come back to it. Sometimes, coming back to it doesn't have to mean re-reading it, but merely thinking about it. A really good book can keep you thinking about it for years. Even though he causes harm to himself and others, it's hard not to root for him.

Night Watch is my favorite of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. We need more Sam Vimes in charge of police departments, and less "One must be a bad cop to be a good cop".

Agreed, Marcus. That's what I felt while reading TFIOS. Can't say for sure it's my favorite book of all time but it's right there on the list.
