How to just disable pdf conversion?
Given that everybody recognizes that PDF conversion gives some really terrible results, is there a way to stop PDFs (or any other format, I guess) from converting automatically on input? My Kindle, at least, shows the PDFs just fine (in most cases) and I just want to get them in the library without having to wait for/cancel the conversion job and then delete the mobi file.
Just disabling the PDF input plugin isn't allowed (by calibre, I mean), and I don't see a plugin to control "convertable" input formats. Anybody? |

Don't check automatic conversion by adding books to calibre (preferences -> import/export -> adding books):

Sure, but the point is to disable JUST pdf conversion
Other conversions actually work (epub to mobi is prefect, as far as I can tell). PDF conversion doesn't, or at least doesn't work well in most cases, which everybody recognizes. I don't want to disable everything, just PDFs.

Maybe I am wrong, but I guess you cannot do this that way.
With importing a book, you can only decide to convert automatically or not w/o any special format restrictions. However, with exporting to a device you can decide what formats are allowed for your reader and only if a format is not available, Calibre will convert it to the main format of the device (device interface, the first one in the list of activated formats for your device). |

Calibre can convert on the fly (but that can be a real transfer slowdown) when it does not have any format the device supports. Remember. The device driver list does 2 things: 1)Sets the PREFERRED format order. 2) sets the allowed formats I prefer the following PERSONAL Library work flow: (*optional) Add existing book formats Add/update/trim covers add/update/edit Metadata * do cleanup edits on the book, embed fonts the publisher can't ship * convert to preferred output format Why convert twice ![]() |
