Going insane over collections.
Hi I have a paperwhite 2, I use calibre to organize my library of books I like a nice tidy home screen and organize my books into collections usually by author.
Recently I have had a pop up when I am reading a book saying my books are now synced and I can access them in my items in collections, I ignored the message and carried on reading. Later I went to add a book to a collection and found that each author was listed multiple times each with a different amount of books in each collection; so instead of 1 Tolkien collection the device is saying I have 4 each with a different amount of books, this happens to all my collections. I tried restarting the device, de-registering and re-registering as well as resetting the device but each time this happened again, I never know which of these collections to add a book to. Also I have stars on the right hand side by each collection, 1 of the options when I touch the stars is to only have the collection viewed in collections, when I pick this option my collection vanishes and can't be found although the device says it's still there. I also have issues with books vanishing from collections & some not showing when I add them to the device. These issues occur when I download via usb to pc then add via calibre & when I download straight from Amazon. Any help and advice would be welcome. Dee ![]() |

You may have just gotten the OTA update to firmware>=5.4.2, congratulations! Search for Cloud Collections here on MobileRead, and you will find plenty of shared agony about it.
The primary goal of CC is to sync all your collections across all devices. Unfortunately, this seems to include all the collections you have duplicted across e-ink, app, Fire and PC Kindles, as well as any you deleted and recreated, which Amazon has remembered. You will need to delete the extra collections by hand -- they shouldn't ever come back, but deregistering doesn't help since your Cloud Collections are still there. |

Hi, thanks for that, dumb question I know but how do I delete them manually when I can only see them on the 'add to collection' page?

Press and hold on a collection, and you will get the collection options menu (like the way you normally get the book options menu).

Surely that will only get rid of the single collections on my home screen not the multiple ones on my add to collections screen? When I go to the add to collections screen I can't edit them I can only add or remove books.
Sorry I'm not very technically minded just wish my paperwhite would do what I want it to do. |

There should be several options there:
Select each collection in turn and use this menu to delete it. Last edited by eschwartz; 04-10-2014 at 02:22 PM. |

The easiest way along with eschartz' suggestions is to switch your view to Collections. This view will list all your collections and you can get rid of ones you do not want from here.
As stated the first time you do this after your update is a PITA, but it should be easier to use once this step is done. A little tip for you that I have learned the hard way. If for some reason you need to deregister your kindle device from your account, make sure your collections are fully synced with all the latest updates on a different device. Otherwise all your recent changes will not be updated when you reregister the device to your account. |
