Desktop ver 3.6.0 Crash While Syncing
Sorry if there is a thread already on this, but I couldn't locate one.
I'm trying to our old eReader going again. I was prompted to upgrade the Kobo desktopp software and did so. Version now shows 3.6.0. I sign into the account and the software starts to sync the books. It shows there are 177 books to sync. When it gets to about 155 to 160, the software crashes. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the software but it did not work. Using Windows XP. Also tried this on Windows 8 with the same results. The reader is the original Kobo eReader model N614. The reader is not attached to computer when the crash happens. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Last edited by snmilliken; 03-02-2014 at 06:51 PM. Reason: Solved |

so it is the sync between your computer and the cloud which causes the clash?
Maybe you could try to interrupt the sync after the first 100 books have synced, and then try again. I had that problem with a previous version, and I suspected it was too much to sync for my machine (same on the reader when syncing over WIFI). I have used 3.6.0 for sevelar syncs yesaterday without problems (on windows 8). |

Yes the sync is between the cloud (Kobo) and the desktop. It has sync'd 163 books. It shows 14 books left to sync, but crashes as soon as it starts now. I can stop it, but it does nothing to help it.
Strange, as I tried it with Windows 8 and had the exact same problem. When researching the problem, I ran across threads about Kobo not supporting Windows 8 and thought that was my problem. As I said has been a while since we used the eReader. Not even sure how to get the books onto the reader. Plug it in and see what happens? |

Kobo does not have an app for Windows 8 RT. I am running Windows 8 on my desktop and have the Kobo Desktop app working with no problems.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe something with the account maybe or the book that is trying to be sync'd at the time of the crash.

One idea is to delete books from your Kobo account and sync just a few at a time. Remember that dropping books via the website just moves them into the trash on your account, and you can then restore them from the trash.

OK, also, is the firmware 1.8.3 the current version? Or where can I find out what is the current firmware version?

OK, I have resolved this problem. It was crashing on the same book everytime. I deleted the book from the web account access. Then resync'd the desktop. All finished just fine. I tried to access the book from within the account on the browser. The book is no longer available. Go figure.
Thanks for the help all. |

They probably pulled the book while the problems with it were being addressed. Hopefully you have the epub version as a backup. It might also be worth opening a ticket to see if you can get a refund.
