Upload to KDP

My book is now almost finished.....thanks to all on this forum who have helped along the way.

I have some questions on the upload to KDP process.

1. When I convert the .epub file to .mobi using kindlegen ( to proof the book on a kindle) I get the message

'Info(prcgen):I1052: Kindle support cover images but does not support cover HTML. Hence using the cover image specified and suppressing cover HTML in content. URL: /var/folders/n0/ds9ndtc91b1_x33byqs4v2qh0000gn/T/mobi-LasF7g/OEBPS/Text/cover.xhtml

As the upload process asks for a cover image in a step separate to the upload of the book file, I though I would just delete the cover.xhtml from the final draft before uploading, so no there would be problem with cover html or possibility of two covers...is this the correct approach?

2. There is also a message from Kindlegen

'Info(pagemap):I8000: No Page map found in the book

Is this important? What is a page map?

3. KDP gives the option of uploading as a .epub or .mobi file. Is there any advantage to using one or the other?

Please ask questions in the correct forum. It's pretty self-evident that this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Sigil. Moved to the Kindle formats forum.

The optimal way to convert an epub is to have no cover.xhtml but to have a cover.jpg which is marked as type=cover. But the cover you upload separately is not the same as the book's cover image, especially noticeable as certain publishers (I'm looking at you, Penguin!) actually put no cover in other than a stupid picture of a penguin.

The separately uploaded cover will be the one on the product page, as well as the Kindle thumbnail, and the cover.jpg will be the one at the beginning of the book.
Page Maps are exactly as important as Real Page Numbers, since that is what they do. If there is a pbook to go with the ebook, you may wish to look into creating a page map so people can compare locations between the two formats, but for an ebook-only book, page map can be forgotten.
If you upload a .epub to KDP, they will run kindlegen on it for you. Or you can do it yourself, and use Previewer to confirm how it looks before uploading it.

Same difference, really.

I am using sigil....where should the cover.jpg image be placed?

Just add it to the book, it will automatically be placed in the images folder, and make sure you right-click and check taht the semantic on that file is set to "cover"!
