Emailing Unlocked ebooks to Kindle paper White ?
I always strip DRM from all ebooks I buy. Then I often convert formats with Calibre.
Will I have any trouble with Amazon if I then email them to my KPW and have them in my Amazon Personal Documents ? |

Possibly not, but you might want to remove the ASIN.

Conversion wipes the ASIN. If you mail the original.mobi, I think Amazon will replace the ASIN anyway, with a personal_docs UUID, and if you email .azw3, I believe they will simply refuse to accept it so it's a moot point.

Ah ... so amazon will not allow non DRM .azw3 files in the personal docs at all ?

With calibre, if you go to Preferences/output options/mobi output, there's an option for 'mobi file type'. If you want to send it to your Kindle, use 'both' rather than 'old' (mobi7) or 'new' (kf8). When it downloads to your device it will only deliver the format your device supports so it won't take any extra space there.
azw3 output is fine if you are side loading or putting it in cloud storage etc. and not using personal document service or using a Kindle 2... Last edited by tomsem; 02-26-2014 at 05:21 PM. |

My point was that if you create a hybrid file (with calibre, using mobi output) you can send it to personal documents and it will sync with everything including the iOS app (without using the calibre ASIN hack).
