How to read through a long list of web article URLs?
I've got a long list with hundreds of URLs of web pages I want to read. Mostly business blog and magazine articles online. Instapaper is excellent for this sort of thing, but without a paid subscription I ran into a cap on the number of articles I can save in a day. That led to the list of URLs so I wouldn't lose track of the articles I had found.
Now I want to review/read through that list as easily as possible. I've considered the following alternatives, which sound too painful... 1) Create an HTML index page and click on the articles one at a time in a browser. 2) Cut/paste URLs from the list into a broser 3) Web scraper - but would seem to be just like #1 above, except offline 4) Web scrape and then convert into an ebook - sounds like a lot of work and more importantly, I would expect to have issues with scaling which make the ultimate result hard to read 5) Pay for Instagram subscription to remove the article limit - This might be a good idea for the future, but won't help me today. Note: I don't care if I have to read this on a desktop computer, or if I use an iPad or Smartphone or whatever. But easy reading and tracking my progress is important to me. Any suggestions? |

Have you looked at Pocket? You save to Pocket from the browser. Then you can read the articles from browser or apps on the tablet. Or get a Kobo ereader and read them there.

Thanks davidfor. I believe Pocket is just like Instapaper.
But yes - it would be perfect if there was a way to add URLs in a single batch to either Paper or Instapaper, e.g. with a web form or sending an email to a custom address. |

OK. I took the problem being more tracking what you hadn't read yet, not being able to add a lot of pages quickly. Pocket do say they only allow one link per email. It seems a weird limitation. Reading a link per line should be easy. The Pocket FAQ for emailing links has the following:
Quote:
Also, I have done number 1 from your list in the past. I kept the file open in the editor and added or removed the links. Saved it and refreshed the page. I also was thinking I saw a Firefox addon that did something like this. I can't find it now, but found https://www.wallabag.org/ as an alternative to Pocket and Instapaper. I can't quickly see that there is a way to add multiple links, but you can suggest it to the developers. |
