Paperwhite charging light colour.
At the moment, I'm charging the PW2 using a mains adaptor. I've been watching the light on the kindle. It's changed from amber to green. What colour does it turn when fully charged?
Oh, and why haven't I had this tutorial thing which I've read so much about? It hasn't been connected to wi-fi (don't have it), is this the reason why it hasn't appeared? I called Amazon about the absence of pre-registration and they told me that it's registered at their end but not showing my name because I haven't connected it to wi-fi. |

No, just kidding. If the light is green, it's charged. Quote:

It's best if you just get it out to a library or something, connect it once, arrange what you want to have arranged, and then shut off Wi-Fi. Last edited by Katsunami; 02-21-2014 at 08:19 AM. |

It came with the manual pre-loaded. I've been playing with the PW, good innit? I have got fingermarks all over the screen, but these were easily wiped off. I've already sideloaded some SmashWords books onto it.
I'm so glad it didn't explode or anything once it had charged, though a gentle sound would have been a nice reminder. Love the frontlight! Saves me having to switch the light on when it's dull outside. I can cosily sit in the half-light with my kindle paperwhite lighting up the screen. Have had a few issues with screen sensitivity. Sometimes seems oversensitive, at others I have to really jab at it. Glad I bought a stylus, that helps lots. |

Even if there is enough ambient light, you'll see that the frontlight makes the Kindle whiter and easier to read, if you set it just right. Don't set it so high it starts looking like it's lit up. Then you're doing it wrong. (In my not-so-honest, very patented opinion

The screen sensitivity is becoming so annoying that I'm wondering whether I have a defective device. Sometimes a mere, unintended, light touch of the screen will activate either a page turn or bring down the menu, whereas at others I really have to jab to get the pages to turn and am now finding the swiping action more reliable.
I don't know if this is because this is my first touch-screen device and I'm just not used to it, or if the device is defective and should be returned. What do you think? |

I think you just need some practice. Anyway, FYI, my KPW1 turns the page at the slightest touch.

Yes, a very light touch will generally cause an action on a Paperwhite screen, and swiping to turn pages can be more accurate.
I had another eink ereader (not a Kindle) with a touchscreen that was so sensitive that blowing on it would change the page. |

As pidgeion92 said--swiping can be more accurate than tapping. Before I had my KPW2, I had a Sony 650 and a Sony 350--I got used to swiping to turn pages rather than tapping, so that's what I do on my KPW2. That seems to work well for me.

I'm beginning to get used to it.
On another note, I'm really impressed with the screen durability. I was reading on the PW2 earlier when I remembered to take some vits; so I laid the PW on my lap while I reached for the pills. Hands full with bottles and water, I watched with horror as one of my cats made her way across my lap, treading on the PW screen!! Luckily the only damage was that she changed the font size. The screen was untouched and healthy. Impressed. I'm sure the 505 couldn't survive that. Must buy an ecaddy book armour for it to go in when not reading so that this doesn't happen again. |

![]() Just buy a book style cover. If you need to lay the PW down, you just flip the cover shut, and the device will be protected. Alternatively... skin the cat ![]() Last edited by Katsunami; 02-25-2014 at 07:34 AM. |

I have one, it may be strong enough to cope with cats, I tend to read with the front flap behind the reader and on this occasion laid it down like that. I'll remember to close the flap in future. Thanks Katsunami.

I once laid it down on the table with the cover folded back, and now there's a large stain on the cloth on the inside. There must have been something on the table. Now I habitually close the cover, but I do have a new one coming. (Fortunately they're €7.95 eBay covers, not the €35 Amazon ones.) |
