Sony PRS-T3 or Kobo Touch for HALF the price of the PRS?
Hi,
I have a choice between the two as there as a "campaign" going on at the store. I will be using it exclusively for reading PDF files/free books on software programming and the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, on the toilet at home. No joke. So I'll mostly always have a light source and power available. Either the Sony PRS-T3 with cover included or a Kobo Touch for half the price of it? I would get the Sony T3, unless you really need to spend less. It's a newer product.

Either would be perfect for Tolkien. Neither would be for PDFs.

Search this very section of the forum for numerous comments on reading PDF's on ereaders. The consensus is that any e-ink ereader is not great for reading PDF's, mainly due to the smaller screen size, and that you would be far better getting a tablet for PDF's.
The Kobo Aura HD does have a slightly larger screen than the standard 6" ereaders, but it's still far from perfect. Same with the old Kindle DX (and they are both more expensive). If your only choice is going to be between the Kobo Touch and the PRS T3, I'd go with the T3 as it's a lot newer and will therefore be a little faster (better processor) which might help when panning & zooming your PDF files. |

Thanks, I did look in the forum just now while waiting for an answer and found exactly what you said. Can you however zoom in in PDF files on the Touch and the PRS T3? You know, just pinch zoom and go in closer? |

I don't know how the PRS-T3 works for this. But, the Sony devices usually support PDF reflow. This can be better for some PDF, but I don't think it works well if the formatting is important. |

Just do what normal people do. Bring your phone to the toilet.
If you are a man, that means you can only read while taking a dump (unless you pee sitting too), you can only get maybe five to 10 minutes of reading everyday (or every three days like me). |
