Gotta 'nother question ...
I have yet another question ... (can you tell I sat in the front of the class with my hand raised???
![]() I've been sideloading books on my new Glo slowly ... because I want to see how different settings affect things ... to find my favorite. I have four book that I purchased from Kobo that are parts of various series. They show up like this: Title of Book Name of series - # of book Author of Book I have other non-Kobo epubs that don't show the series info. I added the kepub converter to Calibre and converted a few books to kepub. They show up as kepubs on the list, but they don't show the series information, even though it's in the metadata. Also, I changed the titles of some books using Calibre .... mostly to remove the stuff after the title that's in parenthesis. But, when I sideloaded to the Glo, the stuff in parenthesis reappeared. (these were sideloaded as epubs, not kepubs) I'm using the KoboTouch driver, not the KoboTouchExtended driver. Should I use the Extended driver? Does it matter? Is it possible to get the series info to show up under the titles? (I know that I can make the series info become custom shelves ... I'd like it to show up under the titles like the Kobo books....) When I'm in the "On Device" view, I can right click on the book and choose "Manage Series Information in Device Library" ... There is nothing under "original series", but the info I added is under "new series". On the Kobo books, I see that there is the info I want under "original series". I can't change the "original series" info ... Is it possible to keep the title I choose in the metadata when transferring the books using Calibre? Can I use Calibre to clean the titles up? Wait, I just found that .... I see that I can do that ... So, now just want to do the series thing ... |

Open the driver configuration dialog. Select the option "Set Series information". The next time you connect the device, the driver will update the series information for the books already on the device. This will happen each time you connect. Any new books sent will get the series information set the next time the device is connected.
This will works for either the standard driver or the extended driver. |

OK! I'll try that.
Is the big difference between the Extended and the Touch driver that the extended automatically converts to kepub when transferring? The regular Touch driver does not convert and if I want kepub, I have to convert and add to my Calibre Library and then remember to transfer the kepub over .... right? So, is one way better than the other? Is there a reason I wouldn't want to use the kepub? Again, davidfor saves the day! |

For books sideloaded via Calibre (epub or kepub, makes no diference):
1. Add the series information to the book's metadata in Calibre, 2. Make sure the metadata management option in Calibre is set to automatic, 3. Make sure the KoboTouch plugin has the "Set series information" box ticked, 4. Send the book to the device, 5. Safely eject, unplug, wait for device to process books, 6. Plug in for a second time, wait for Calibre to update metadata, 7. Safely eject and unplug for a second time, and series info should now show on the device. To change titles, author, series, and to add ISBN, publisher, and publication date metadata to sideloaded books, use the "update metadata" function in the KoboUtilities plugin. You can also use these methods to change the metadata for non-sideloaded books by adding a dummy book to calibre with the same name and author as the book on the device, connect the device and ait for Calibre to match the dummy book to the one on the device, then change and update the metadata for the dummy book in exactly the same way as for a sideloaded book. |

I didn't read this chunk properly before, but I think treating it separately is better.

But, as GeoffR suggested, I usually add the epub version or an empty book to calibre to do it automatically. |

It comes down to a personal preference. Some people hate kepubs and some love them. Quote:

ok, what did I do now ...
I have a book ... it was originally from amazon. I converted it to epub and then converted that to kepub. I now have three versions of the same book. I put the epub and kepub on my Glo so I could see the differences. When I choose the kepub and select a chapter, it locks up the Glo. (it's hung on "loading Chapter Nine") I have to restart it and I can't always get out of the book. Sometimes it goes to the correct page in the book and sometimes it stays on loading the chapter until I restart it again and choose another book. What gives? So ... if I use the Touch Driver, do I have to specifically tell it to transfer the kepubs, or does it default to kepub if it's there and use epub if it isn't? If I use the extended driver, I don't have to convert to kepub because it does it automatically on transfer ... meaning my Calibre library is smaller ... Are the resulting kepubs in both cases identical? And one last question (if you believe that I've got some ocean-front property in Arizona to sell you!): I installed the Kobo desktop to set up the Glo. I use Calibre to manage the device. Can I un-install the Kobo desktop? I suspect it's why my Glo will not properly eject. Last edited by Catsnkites; 02-18-2014 at 12:58 AM. |

sigh ....
Ok, I added a few library books. I made blank books in Calibre and it matched them up after a disconnect, reconnect, but it didn't put them on Shelves, or Collections. In Calibre, I put the blank books on a shelf called "Library Books". When I had the Glo connected, and in device view, the shelf tags were there, but the shelves don't show on the Glo .... |

told ya I'd have another question ...
Can I order my shelves/collections in some way other than alphabetically? Some are more important ... I like having the Library shelf at the top, for example ... I'm sure I could force it .... a Library b Mysteries c Crime Fiction, but is there another way? Also, I don't have it set to automatically manage the metadata ... should I? is that why it doesn't seem to be updating it? I've disconnected and reconnected a few times and the "Library" Shelf/Collection is not showing up. Also, can I add cover art to the library books that I've checked out? Not really a big deal, just curious ... |

If you have a dummy book in Calibre matching the library book on the device then you can add or replace its cover image using the "Upload covers" function of the KoboUtilities plugin. After sending you might need to restart the device before the new cover will show up. |

Another option if you have a few important Collections is to force those Collections to each have a tile on the Home screen.
You can do this by:
