embp files and highlights for user-generated eBooks
Am I correct in thinking that the embp files (containing bookmarks, highlights, and notes) that are associated with user-created Kindle books that are sent to one's Kindle email address using the CONVERT feature become a permanent part of one's Kindle library (if not deleted) just like the embp files associated with purchased Kindle books? I ask because I've had some go missing lately, and simply can't recall if they were files generated from when I was side-loading the .prc file directly to my Kindle reader, or after I used the CONVERT feature. Big difference if afterwards.
I think that I should expect to see the highlights on my converted eBooks under Your Highlights, just like my regular Kindle books. Correct me if mistaken, please. Thanks. |

First, they are .mbp files, not embp. Second, you can't email .mbp files to your kindle email address.
So, the answer to your question is no. You can, I think, manually copy the file to another Kindle. It's worth a try, anyway. I think that azw3 uses a different file from .mbp, though. |

.mbp files associated with a book in the Kindle Cloud (however they got there) will contain the information that is synced between all your devices -- as long as you haven't turned syncing of bookmarks/highlights/notes OFF in Manage Your Kindle. See: http://amzn.com/kindlepersonaldocuments

Thanks. Responding to both replies in this single pose. I wasn't trying to send actual .mbp files to my kindle email address, just wondering should I expect them to be generated and syncd for Personal Documents (added via my Kindle email address vs USB). The answer seems to have been yes, but I had confused myself by added a mixture of side-loaded documents and others via the email/convert method. In any event, my .mbp files went walkabout, and I was worried. I think, now, that the explanation, is that they were from the side-loaded files. But, even now, when I examine my directory on my Android phone, I see NO .mbp files, only the .prc files, and a few .embp files (which are from side-loaded documents). And that's AFTER sending a number of files to my Kindle email address via the Convert feature. Which does leave me wondering where the .mbp files are actually kept on my Android device.
