				2014 Lionel Gelber Prize shortlist

The winner of the Lionel Gelber Prize for 2014 will be announced on March 31. The object of the prize is to recognize the world’s best non-fiction book in English on foreign affairs that seeks to deepen public debate on significant international issues. The prize is presented by the Lionel Gelber Foundation, partnered with the University of Toronto and "Foreign Policy" magazine. The short-list of finalists for 2014 is: "The Blood Telegram : Nixon, Kissinger, and a Forgotten Genocide" by Gary J. Bass "Those Angry Days Roosevelt, Lindbergh, and America’s Fight Over World War II, 1939-1941" by Lynne Olson "Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety" by Eric Schlosser "Europe: The Struggle for Supremacy, from 1453 to the Present" by Brendan Simms "The Battle of Bretton Woods: John Maynard Keynes, Harry Dexter White, and the Making of a New World Order" by Benn Steil I've read "The Blood Telegram" and "Those Angry Days". I thought they were both excellent. Thanks for the recommendation for "The Blood Telegram", Lady Stardust. I have the other three on my TBR. Has anyone read any of those, and can they comment on them? Thanks, Bruce |
