Micro SD usage?
I know this is a dumb question but how would an external storage exactly work with Kobo? I'm very new to e-readers. I was browsing through a bookstore a few months back and saw Kobo readers on their shelf. And just this past week, I decided to buy a Glo. And my gaddd, I haven't put it down since. I even bought the sleep cover. Anyway, I'm thinking of buying a micro sd. But is it really worth it? I'm willing to dish out some money for a SanDisk class 10 32gb one. But will I really need all that space? I was thinking of just getting maybe an 8 or 16gb one, but why not go for broke? Also, does it really have to be class 10? They are hella expensive. I've read some posts here where loading books from SD takes longer to load. If I can't afford a class 10 one, will a class 4 work just as well, or will there be some noticeable performance change? And will it work the same way as the internal storage does? I'm also using Calibre to push books (I really like to download fics over the net and edit the heck out of their metadata to make them look legit) to my Glo. Will I have the option to push it to internal or external storage?
I know those are a lot of questions, but I really hope you guys can answer them. Thanks! |

You'll only need that kind of space if you like to put thousands upon thousands of books on your Reader.
Many people laugh uproariously (in private!) when a member goes down this dark, obsessive road. Some members disagree - like a hermit crab carrying around his house on his back - they like to have their entire library with them. This strange breed of creature enjoys having thousands upon thousands of choices to choose from when it comes to reading. In my studies of this strange behavior, I've found that they like to live in dark alleys with poor lighting, and usually live in efficiency apartments, which may have a psychological bearing upon their desire to have as much storage space as possible. In the meantime, my research continues.... Be aware, however, that if you choose the first option, that no one will laugh or make fun of you (in public) - we don't allow that on MobileRead. We are a tolerant group of individuals, and we respect the strange differing behavior of our many members. But seriously: If you feel a need to put your entire library on that amount of space, you should do so, but indexing can take a very long time. Also, it's sometimes comforting (from one's personal point-of-view), to include your entire library on a single device. I don't do it, but there are members here who like having that option. Too, some members like to keep their purchased ebooks on the device, and sideloaded ebooks on the card, an option which addresses management choices. I use a class 4 card in mine. I believe it is 4gb. At one time I had over 2,000 books on it. It does tend to slow the Glo down, though. And the more shelves (collections) you have, the more accessing them slows down, too. It's really better to keep less. If you want more, get a tablet, they can hold thousands with ease. But an eink reader is going to slow, the more you put on it.
