Cube root symbol not displaying on Aura HD

I have an epub (G. H. Hardy's "A Mathematician's Apology") that contains cube root symbols (Unicode char 0x221B), and regardless of what font I choose for text display on the reader, this symbol just displays as a square hollow box. If I view the same epub on the PC using either Sigil or the Calibre ebook viewer, the symbols show correctly. I also have the Charis SIL Modified and Charis SIL compact fonts that I downloaded from here installed on the Aura HD, and they also just show the symbol as a hollow square, though the same font on the PC shows the cube root symbol correctly.

The Aurd HD is running firmware 3.1.1.

I've had better luck using Amasis font from Nook when reading books with math formulas.

On my Aura HD, the cube root symbol (∛) displays when I select Deja Vu Serif or Code 2000 as a font. I used the &# 8731; format to enter it in a test ebook.

David

Thanks. I copied the DejaVu Serif ttf files from /usr/share/fonts/truetype/dejavu to the fonts folder on the reader, renamed the files, and rebooted. I can now see the cube root symbols when I select that font. I can't say that I particularly care for the look of the font, though. It looks a bit too much like proportionally spaced typewriter output.

True, it's not the prettiest font but I keep it around for when I run into an ebook that uses a lot of Greek characters or math operators which my preferred font's don't support.

David
