Troubleshooting azw3 problem on Kindle PW2 5.4.2.1

Could someone with PW2 5.4.2.1 try this:

• find an azw3 document. (if there is not then convert another one via Calibre)
• sideload this doc
• add this doc into a collection
• see if it is visible both on home screen and in the collection. (normally it should be visible only in the collection )

I know that on the home screen "sort according to collection" should be chosen.

This works for me, the book is removed from the homescreen once it is in the collection. Have you tried restarting your pw2? Also, sometimes if I switch views to something else and then switch by to Collections view it refreshes itself.

Thanks for the reply. This Pw2 is actually a friend of mine's and he tried the hard reset but the problem remained.

Is it one file or all azw3s? Is it only a problem with Calibre converted files?

For all azw3 files converted by Calibre.

There is either something wrong with his pw2 or something wrong with his conversion settings in Calibre, because I have not seen this problem. One more question, are these Amazon purchased conversions or non-Amazon purchased conversions. When he tries to put them into collections, does that box pop up that they do not show up in the cloud? What version firmware does the device have?

I would recommend:

1. deregistering the device, remove all collections and start over.
2. resetting the pw2 and starting over to see if the problem is related to the pw or the files themselves.

I know on the Kindle Touch if I change the title metadata with calibre and replace the (Amazon-purchased) book, if it was in a collection, the KT gets confused about whether it should be in the collection or not. I usually get around this by not putting anything into collections until I have set everything in calibre. IF I forget, I need to reload the original form of the book, with the lousy title including junk like ": A Novel" and delete it in that form from the collection. Then replace the book with a corrected title and proceed like normal.

Maybe this is the same problem?

Actually something like that can happen without Calibre being involved at all.

I find (on the Kindle Keyboard) that when Amazon auto-updates a book which is in a collection the KK may get confused in the above manner. Must try a restart next time this happens but I have previously removed and reinserted in the collection.

Yes, the problem seems to be when the book doesn't have the same title (at least that's where I've noticed it) which can happen when the publisher updates it, or through calibre, or Java Mobi Metadata Editor, etc.

And it doesn't help to remove and re-add the new copy, you must remove it using the old copy! What is up with this I do not know....
