Kindle Breakdowns
How many of us have had our kindles (any model) breakdown in the last two years?
About two years ago the power switch on my Kindle three broke down and I could no longer turn it off or on. |

I've owned:
2 original Kindles. My husband broke the screen on one, and I sold the other one, which was in working order at the time. 1 K2. Still in working order 1 K3. Gave away, was in working order at that time. I don't know its fate. 1 Kindle Touch. Gave away, was in working order at that time. I don't know its fate. 1 Kindle PW 1. Still in working order. 1 Kindle PW 2. Still in working order. 1 Kindle DXG. Still in working order. |

I've owned a K2, a KDXG, two K3s, a K4S, three PW1s, and a PW2. None of them ever broke down. Granted the three PW1s had rubbish screens and all three were returned. The PW2 had a better screen, but it was still not very good so I gifted it to a friend. But my Ks never suffered any actual breakdowns.

Vanilla Kindle has had no problems but very little use since I received my PW as a gift in February '13. I'm pretty sure it's a K 4 and I need to update my info: my entire family got them for Christmas the year the price dropped below $100.
PW 1st Gen had a battery issue and couldn't hold a charge for more than an hour. It came on suddenly a few weeks before the warranty expired, so Amazon replaced it. |

I've only owed my PW1 for one year, so I'm not sure if you want me to vote or not. It's had a lot of use and has had no problems.

I have had 3 kindles since January 2010 and all of them are still in perfect working condition. I have never had any issues with any of them.
Kindle 2 - Received it as a birthday gift in January 2010. Still working great, however, I don't really use it much. Kindle Keyboard - Received it as a Father's Day gift in June 2011. Still working great. I gave it to my daughter's friend as a Christmas gift a couple of weeks ago. Kindle Paperwhite 2 - Received it as a Christmas gift a couple of weeks ago. K2--arrived a week after release. Still working, in the hands of a friend.
Touch--a month or so after release. Still working as a backup. PW2--couple of weeks past release. No issues. While I treat my devices with some care, I don't baby them. The two older Kindles were caseless (sleeves for travel). The PW2 only has a case because of the magnetic open/close feature. (And to be fair, three family iPads since first release, and five of six iPhones have ALL been problem free. One iPhone 4 suffers from home button failure. Either we're remarkably lucky, or the devices are reasonably well built.) |

K1 original kindle 2008 - still works on 2nd battery. I keep waiting for the wheel to fail, but so far so good. Not used often anymore though. Used for 2 years and read like 400 books on it.
K3 2010 - still works fine and still used. Has a crack in the lower right corner frame I covered with a skin. Has been there since early days. Still the same. PW1 - 2012 still works, but I don't like reading on it because of the floating letter effect. Or the extra layers, whatever it is, I don't like it anymore. Basic Kindle, just got that one in December 2013 and its my always use kindle now. We'll see how long it goes. Its also my first kindle without 3G. But best kindle display of all of them when I line them up, including the PW. So I am doing good so far. But then I have no kids in the house, no dogs and all but the latest basic have always been in a cover. I am doing the naked thing now with the latest and I love how light it is. Hopefully that doesn't mean disaster. ![]() ![]() |

KPW1, used by me, still working. Both were bought as soon as they were available in Europe. |

None has completely broken down, but as they've developed various problems, giving me an excuse to get a new one, I have.
My first one (the second model) started having a pretty short battery life. I could charge it every couple of days or replace, so I replaced it with a touch right when they came out. The touch has been freezing often for months. I was able to fix it by restarting it a time or two, but lately that has been less getting worse (I have to restart it 10 times or more) so I'm replacing it with a Paperwhite (my first one had a small screen defect so the replacement is arriving tomorrow). |

A 3 year old DXG, not completely non-functional, but bad enough that I gave up on it. Swapped the front panel onto a broken screen one from ebay.
