Push pin icon thing?
I finally updated from 1.1 to 1.18 today and now there's this Push Pin icon appearing next to certain books in my library.
It looks like they're books in a series with similar names. For instance one series all have titles that start with "Ballistics In" and these have the icon. But then there's another series that all start with "After The Fall:" and these don't have the pin. As yet another odd example I have a series with five books that start with the word "Evidence", only 3 of which have the pin, and one titled "Evidenced" that also has the pin, while 2 books in the same series starting with "Evident" do not have the pin. I don't have any Column Icon rules set up so I have no idea why this icon has suddenly started popping up. Any ideas? Added: Just to make things more confusing I have a whole bunch of Harry Potter fanfics that start with "Harry Potter and the" that seem to randomly have the push pin icon but none of them are in a series together. There is a new feature Mark Books. You can find the commands to use it in Preferences > Toolbars, the pushpin icon. You can use Mark books to clear or set pushpins.
The existing pushpins you have now are probably a legacy from a plugin such as Find Duplicates. Last edited by unboggling; 01-04-2014 at 04:02 PM. |

If you used the Mark books feature to clear the marks it is possible that the marks will be back the next time you start calibre. If they do return then you have to open the Find Duplicates plugin and clear the exemptions you have set.

Thinking about it, I guess there is no way for a user to determine just from looking at the mark which feature or plugin originally put it there. Edit: Clearing duplicate results from Find Duplicates also removes any marks previously assigned by Mark Books, even when the Marked Books marked-books are different books than the Find Duplicates marked-books. So if they always clear each others' marks globally, there is no chance of confusion about whose marks are whose. Though there may be confusion about why some marks unexpectedly disappeared. The push pins that persist are created by the user when he/she nominates a set of books as a Find Duplicates exclusion group. An exclusion group is a set of books that will NOT be regarded as duplicates in future Find Duplicates executions. Hence the need for persistent data.
